I have two children who go to this school. One has an IEP and is on the spectrum. He is quiet and a rule follower. So, disciplinary issues with him are at a minimum. His special ed teacher in 5 th grade was amazing and cared so much. All of his teachers as he is in 80% regular teachers. Flash forward 6 th grade the special Ed teacher while nice told me “all of her students pass” and asked me “what realistic plans did I have for my child”. She used slang and improper English and talked to me as if we were hanging out. My other child has had some emotional issues. Issues with being bullied that followed her over from the elementary school. Everything is blamed in Covid they didn’t know what students could be placed together and now “all the bullies are in one class”. This went on for 2 years at the elementary school. I do have to give credit for the middle school handling it quick? But it actually took my child getting violent back for action to happen. It should not have to get to that point. No wanted to teach my children violence was not the answer. I just done feel as if the school is preparing the kids for college or any academic success. It’s not an awful school , but there is room for improvement. I found some of the tea hers amazing. The principal and vice principal actually love their jobs. I love how strict the principal is. If they had that at Nathan Hale maybe problems would have solved earlier on. Also, tired of fighting for services for my special needs child. I have learned things present in every school district in Illinois. They will give you the bare minimum unless you fight for it. It is so frustrating. I sometimes worry about children with parents who are t as well versed with the laws and/or do t have the same resources. What will happen to those children. From what it sounds like the school district has made great strides from reading previous reviews, but they need to keep going and do better.

Horrific, similar to DOC. There is no control at all.

This school so far so good, no complaints. My daughter is a new student and she really likes it. Besides her complaint about how strict it is she really likes it. These children need some type of discipline.Plenty activities for her to join and I'm pleased with her midterm grades so far. So far I think the principal is doing a great job. He has an open door policy when he can be available and he is willing to work with you, with in reason. Change is good just a little getting used to!

I've been apart of this school district since 2001...my first child graduated in 2009 and I currently have 3 students remaining. I have seen many changes from staff to school board and administration. I can honestly say this is the first time I have seen POSITIVE & PERSONAL involvement displayed from our Superintendent, Principal and Staff which in turn creates a positive environment for parent involvement because of the idea of working as a TEAM. I must say before I only knew of the superintendent by name only and occasionally seen the principal at school events. Now...It's Great to be able to put a name with a face and the students light up when they see the presence of their school Leaders at various events. GREAT JOB Gentleman & Staff...Keep up the Good Work :-)

Heritage has changed and not for the good. The superintendent is awesome but he has chosen a principal who has leadership issues. I hope that Heritage gets back on track for the sake of the children in the mean time I could not allow my son to be affected by the mannerisms in that school. The assistant principal is wonderful and they are going to lose her unfortunately.
