Great! I went to the school in 1977-1980 loved the school back then staff was very great with students

I tried to keep an open mind about this school when we moved into this district. Unfortunately, this school just seems to be struggling. I know they are on an improvement plan, but the principal seems to take a very lazy approach. The teachers all seem incredibly overwhelmed. They constantly complain about how tired they are or that they can't wait until Friday. Not only was this unprofessional, but did not instill faith in the environment I wanted my children to learn through. This school seems very disorganized and communication is not great. Neither of my children's' teachers used independent discipline/behavior strategies, and tended to blame several students for behavior issues. They would just lump children into a group and any child that was associated with the disruption would be implicated, instead of addressing the problems with each individual student. Bullying was not addressed or even recognized. The teachers just seem like they have their hands too full and they need fewer students or more help in the classroom. Homework was VERY monotonous; the same worksheets with the same activities. They looked like they had been photocopied too many times, and were even illegible to the point that we had to call and ask what the directions were. Despite paying fees, resources seemed too limited. One of the teachers dressed very inappropriately - wearing mini-skirts and platform heels - to teach kindergarten! Overall, my family was not pleased with our experience and we requested a transfer.

We moved into the area in 2015 and have heard the history of Miller doing poorly in ratings in past years, but we were hopeful with new leadership that it would be a successful start for our kindergartener and it has been great! The principal is spoken of highly by parents and staff for her leadership and involvement. The school has partnerships in the community that help sponsor a free family night once a month that includes a learning activity (math night, science night, zumba, etc) and free family style dinner that allows parents to connect with others at the school while eating in the cafeteria. Miller is a Title 1 campus and I see them utilizing their resources to really maximize the student learning experience. They have substantial aide support for each of the teachers. Third graders get tablets to learn on. Teachers are sponsoring talent shows and performances after hours to engage students and involve families. My kindergartener has learned so much in the classroom and we are given regular feedback through the teacher.
