Kula Elementary greatly exceeds the expectations for a public school. The new principal is excellent- he is involved with the community of the school and is a great cohesive factor between parents, students, & teachers. His presence at the school has been noticeably beneficial to all. The teachers are also invested in their students. Every one of them goes far above & beyond to give the children a quality education, and work as an excellent team. The office staff is friendly & helpful & are familiar with each child. Cafeteria workers are dedicated & provide well rounded lunches that include fresh fruits &whole grains. Kula school has a PCNC who coordinates many fun activities outside of the school day such as Family movie night, Pumpkin carving at Halloween, and Christmas Craft Evening. Parent involvement is very high. The PTA is very active and coordinates funds to support extra-curricular teachers that are not solely paid for by the DOE. Currently they support the PE program through their fundraising. Ideally they support an art program as well. Improvement-wise I see only one major area in which the school would benefit-the addition of a full time school counselor.

The new Principal (Mr. B.) shows great leadership and is clearly visible around campus. The kids love him and he is very approachable. Our school has some wonderful parent nights due to our wonderful PCNC (parent coordinator Nikki). From Christmas Craft night to Family Fitness night and movie nights and supporting our high school's homecoming Kula Elementary School can really be a family place with friendly people! The teachers have been great as is all the support staff. The PTA is also very involved and open to suggestions. If there were more parent volunteers, then we could have even more activities for the kids including continued involvement in county sports programs (volleyball, basketball, flag football). I love that if a parent wants to form a new club and provides the manpower, the school administration will support you. After a few years of struggling, Kula School is back in great shape...even better than before!

Kula Elementary School is an amazing school! Although I do agree that they would do much better with a new principal, the teachers are extremely dedicated to the children! My daughter in fourth grade has participated in Japanese Club, the Geography Bee, and an afterschool Hawaiian program. The teachers go above and beyond to help the children succeed and in turn yeild high test scores and confident learners! With a new principal that would share the values of the teachers instead of trying to work against them, Kula Elementary would be UNSTOPPABLE!

Kula Elementary school is in dire need of replacing the current Principal. Teachers did an excellent job while trying to endure this dictatorship. Staff morale is low and everyone walks on pins and needles, avoiding the office when possible. Parents with concerns are avoided and discouraged from participating in PTA or volunteering on campus. After being an eight year parent at this school, I moved my children elsewhere (SY2004-2011).

Kula Elementary was rated the best public elementary school on Maui, before the current principal worked there. Most of the teachers are great, as are the kids. The principal is very much a politician, not particularly friendly or even visible on campus. I have a hard time understanding why she chose this profession other than it leading up to becoming a more powerful political figure. It really seems like she does not want to be there, not sure how much she even likes kids.

Kula School works very hard to maintain its traditions, great standing and arts integration.
