Amazing. The best decision we made as parents.

My three children attend HWS. We feel fortunate to have found such an amazing school and community. Our children enjoy going to school which is so important to us as parents. They love their teachers and classmates. They are making friends and learning new things each day that they are excited to share with us at pick up time. We know when we leave them they are in great hands. They truly are receiving a rich, well rounded education that I wish I would have had as a child. We find the administration to be excellent as well.

If you're looking for a glorified day care to mentally stunt your trust fund brat, look no further.

The Waldorf is a kind and nurturing community and if parents are able to volunteer and get involved I feel that the transition may feel smoother. It's a small community so once you're on campus meeting others doesn't feel so daunting. There are so many ways in which to lend a helping hand whether at The Pepper Tree, in the library, listening to a reading group etc. The donating of time, gifts and talents is what enhances the Waldorf experience for all and is vital, so get involved in as many ways as you can. The biggest barometer for me is how excited the children are to attend school and they are. In fact on days when there is no school they are really missing their friends and the overall school experience. Learning how to solve problems, becoming an active participant, developing curiosity and becoming a life long learner are just some of the positive qualities and attributes instilled in these young minds and hearts which are gifts that just keep giving.

My family and I have been members of the Haleakala Waldorf community for nearly 7 years. All of us – we as parents, as well as our kids – have felt incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience this amazing school. Waldorf students emerge richer, wiser, healthier young adults, more ready for the daunting challenges of today’s world, than we ever could have imagined. They have an evident abundance of creative insight, of confidence, and of academic, spiritual and aesthetic resources available within themselves, all of which seems so rare in young adults these days. Waldorf education is entirely worth every measure of cost it entails. We see the proof of the wisdom of Waldorf education clearly visible in the young adults who graduate each year ready and excited to meet the challenges of their lives with an array of powers we non-Waldorf educated parents can only marvel at.

The setting is nice and the teachers are over loaded. The administration doesn't respond to issues, and the kids have to be tutored to keep up with public school kids. Although there is a media blackout for kids, everyone lies and does media. If you have a Trust fund for your child so they don't have to function, then this is a feel good school, otherwise your kid will be struggling. No books, homework is inconsistent, more time is spent on plays, where only 3-4 kids who are the same ones over and over get the lead parts.... and when the librarian left, they closed the library...If you want your child to be encouraged to ask questions and be curious about learning, this is not the place. Sad to say....If you bring up issues with the admin, nothing gets done, just lots of meetings late in the day that you have to pay a babysitter so you can attend....wait until the story is told before you bring up issues.....which will then be ignored.

My child has been at this school for 4 years now and is excelling in this environment. Her teacher really takes the time to know her and the community is very supporting. The new governance model is improving the quality of the curriculum and supporting the teachers to become even better. I am so excited that Haleakala Waldorf School is now starting a high school and my daughter will be able to continue the Waldorf curriculum right through high school.

I think others should know that this is not an academically strong school. If your child is inquisitive, intellectual or an independent thinker this school will stifle their development. The school could improve if it did not try to impose its system and doctrine across the board .. also beware of wealthy parents who have too much influence in school decisions including which teachers stay or go seemingly at a whim..I think the new academic leadership team has destabilized the school and alienated many. Parents are easily intimidated knowing that if they express concerns their tuition assistance might be cut. Think hard before enrolling your child...

My child been at the school for 9 years and we have been pretty happy with most aspects. The last two years things have changed - and not for the better. There is a new so-called governance model which strips the teachers of most of their say, and there is a great disconnect between the leadership on the one hand and the teacher-parent-children body on the other. I am no longer comfortable with the direction this school is headed.
