My kids have been at FMS from 2018-2023. By Knox County Schools standards, it's fine. But it isn't great, especially compared to the other Farragut schools, and has gotten worse since the pandemic. Some of that is due to a shortage of quality teachers. But I think there is also a leadership problem. The principals never seem to know what the teachers are up to and appear untutored in the art of management. At least once a week I hear about some teacher or other who spent class playing on their phone while the kids did teach-yourself activities. All unashamedly teach to the state test and rarely venture farther afield. The English teachers rarely assign or teach class novels. (Unless you count graphic novels.) One of the history teachers shows movies starting in mid-April. Another thinks it is her mission to dissuade young minds from believing in evolution. And the projects - all the useless, busywork, "creative" coloring, slideshows, posters, and draw-your-notes activities. Stock up on markers and glue sticks because your kid will need them. Your kid probably won't learn much here despite parental expectations being high. Many, many parents supplement at home to make up the difference. Probably my youngest will have to take a 2nd biology class in high school because her FMS bio class is so inferior to the one her brother took at FMS just 2 years ago. The academic rigor just isn't there. That said, FMS is a pleasant environment. The students are mature, well behaved, diverse and mutually supportive. Parents don't have to worry much about bullying, fights or anything beyond mild middle school tomfoolery. If your kid is smart they will be fine. And if they aren't they will be passed through with fair-to-middlin' grades and will also be fine.

Education wise, great school! I learn a lot and am excelling in their honors program, however, how they deal with bullying and other issues is, to be frank, quite awful. The school has many issues with vaping and physical fighting in the restrooms, in which they do little to nothing about, except for disallowing students to use the restroom. The teachers are great at teaching, but when reporting things like bullying and drug abuse, they are less than helpful. Students are unenthusiastic and their behavior is disgusting. The way students treat students who are lesser than them is horrid. The social hierarchy within the school is prominent from the moment you walk in. Anyway, music programs are excellent, (specifically band, but I am biased) and most students are extremely passionate about it. I would recommend the school, but be aware that you will receive no help whatsoever with any social issues.

I am a current student in this middle school, and wow, what an experience! The teachers in this school are clearly trying their best to educate the students here. However, the restrooms are completely defaced, with graffiti in almost every stall. I feel bad for the janitors, so I help them out a little. Overall, This school is the best school in Knox county. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I rate my experience a 2/5. The low score was not caused by the specific teachers/staff just how the students act and how the teachers responded to the situations. For example, the kids would fight in the bathroom, and instead of keeping those kids from going during classes/lunch they kept everyone from going to the bathroom during classes, and for awhile they did that. The bathrooms were completely defaced, and were less than sanitary. I felt bad for the janitors, because of how the students treated them at times.

I would rate it 3 stars out of 5 mainly because the homework issues and the bullying also the principals don’t resolve a lot of issues going on in the school like the bathrooms, kids smoking, and the water fountain breaking almost every week

My child has excelled at FMS. It has been a good experience for her as well as for my husband and I. Several of the teachers tutor before or after school without asking for anything in return. Mr. Underwood(6th) was the best math teacher ever. Ms.Rheder gives her time around the clock for her Cspan students. Many teachers come to watch students outside of school at their local CBFO sports events. I am very thankful to the teachers at this school and would recommend it to all who want to see their child succeed.

Used to think this school was great..... the intermediate school is rude, cold, and heartless now. The principal and staff could care less about the kids anymore. It's all about making nothing less than A's on their report card. If you have a problem or concern, be prepared to have the door slammed in your face. They simply don't care about you or your child!
