I love KWH! Our daughter is an incoming freshman and the orientation was amazing! New principal iterated, accountability, commitment, parent involvement, college readiness tracks, social clubs, following rules and consequences for actions. There are almost 30 afterschool clubs, from band to spear fishing! Emphasized how freshman year is the most important and critical to have a successful HS career. Can't wait to see her succeed!

So this is obviously from a disgruntled parent and will probably be swept under the rug as such, but that doesn't make me wrong.Wish it was different, this should have and could have been an awesome experience... but sadly to say have to give them a big old F.I am not new to this-- I have a son with a Masters (teacher), another serving his country in the army, and a daughter getting her law degree at Florida state and an awesome student/athlete at KWHS . Also, if you have an awesome student athlete use his/her speed to run from KWHS. They're Recipe For Success is simple---- bad food, poor antiquated cookie cutter coaching techniques, and an apathetic administrator who condones pressuring the kids into their coaches training way while the parent is away....that's pretty pathetic .Directly against the parents/students wishes (yes-standing by while it takes place is condoning) understand there is a double standard as well, this does not apply to all. I believe the local phrase is bubba system. It shouldn't be this way but there is an uneasy quiet among the sports parents at events and practices-the tone gets very low when a coach or administrator are within earshot, not liking what is taking place but not willing to speak out , either they have tried to no avail or didn't like the repercussions when they did. Not hard to see that I am not that person. It's really too bad its like this.....hope you get it together KWHS for the future kids of this awesome place. Not that KW doesn't need them but you're training these kids to be servers and bartenders not world class athletes and students.

The Key West High School is rated too high on the Zillow web site. The faculty is not responsive to the students or parents. Most of the staff seems to dislike their jobs and are just putting in their time to reach retirement. As a Real Estate professional in the county I constantly hear from clients about how bad the schools in Key West are. Changes need to be made from superintendent on down.
