JHHS was not a good match for my kids. If your child is not highly motivated or in special education program they will get lost in the shuffle. My son was failing a class and when I asked his teacher about it she didn’t even know he was failing. Not a lot of support for the middle. There is also a huge drug and drinking problem at the school. No screening for learning disorders and the school counselors are overwhelmed. There are some really good teachers there, but also some that have huge egos and not that interested in teaching kids that don’t meet their standards. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options in Jackson unless you are able to pay for an expensive private school. My daughter ended up doing online high school because of the lack of support. She excelled there. Wish my son would have done the same, but he liked the social aspect of school.

Our experience as of 9th grade has been great. My son is taking courses that challenge him and make him think. Our experience is that the teachers are committed, caring and helpful.
