PS212 is a great neighborhood school. It has a warm community and teachers who care. We'd send our child there again if we were to start over. However, there is one aspect of this school that is lacking: The children don't get enough recess or outdoor time because the school has limited outdoor space. I am understanding of this challenge, but I am greatly disappointed in the school's solution: They show movies in the auditorium at lunch time every single day (kids alternate between movie days and outdoor days). Kids should have playtime (in the classroom, if needed), not screen time. The movie culture extends beyond the recess hours, as well. Both specials and classroom teachers "reward" kids with movies. There is so much non-academic screen time at PS212 that I am giving it only 3 stars.

I am extremely disappointed by the Pre-K program here. Some teachers seem passionate and great in helping students learn.. Lack of progression from higher administration. Not a very welcoming school... they tend to focus more on children's' abilities in testing rather than really learning. Also tend to focus more on Caucasian families than those of color...

I don't know why anyone in the neighborhood would overlook this school. We have two children currently enrolled at 212. We are discerning parents, and we have high standards. We briefly considered sending our son outside the district, but are so happy we decided to stay close. 212 has surpassed our expectations. The teachers are phenomenal. The administration is also very good. Our children are happy, well-adjusted, and have a joy for learning. This year our kids have had extensive exposure to arts and dance, culminating in two amazing shows. So proud of our kids and of PS212.

The school is great when it comes to the teachers and some support staff. I do believe that the school tends to favor some Hispanics families and ignore the other types of families in the school. The PTA does the typical fundraisers without any consideration for other families who, for example who prefer not to give their kids junk food, or just host movie nights that appeal to very young kids. They want volunteers but when you do volunteer theres no direction and very little appreciation. They rarely ask for help just so that they can complain they don't receive any help, I feel like you if step on the wrong toes, your child is doomed, so try not voice your opinion or make a small change cause its not worth the aggravation

This school is a very nice place to work. The staff is very caring and knowledgeable and the related service providers (OT,PT, Speech, Counseling, etc.) are very dedicated and involved. There are lots of programs that the kids can get involved in both during school hours and also in after school. The PTA is wonderful with activities for the kids, raising money for the school and also providing support to the staff.

Coming from a family of teachers, I can tell you that PS 212 is an excellent school with excellent teachers and therapists, especially Mrs. Aguilar (Kindergarden teacher), Kathy (OT) and Connie (PT). The only problem is that as in any public school, all children are together in integarted classes so often your child will learn someone else's bad behavior.
