You cannot get a much better school than Garden School. The place is safe and rigorous. The kids are kind and inclusive. The teachers are smart and helpful. All around, we love our school and are so glad we chose it for our family. There has been a lot of growth recently including new science labs and art rooms, a theater program and choir, and a robotics program As a parent of two children at the school, we look forward to the schoolsContinued growth and to how our children will grow here.

Garden school has a special meaning to me. I went to this school from 2003-2007. The teachers and staff gave me the learning support I needed to succeed in high school and beyond. Teachers took time at the end of the school day for students who needed help with the learning materials and went over with us again. Now as a parent of an early childhood student at the Garden School, I can say that the school still gives students care, time and that one on one that I received for students to succeed in life. My child grew so much from pre-k- kindergarten academically and socially. I couldn’t be happier.

As a parent of two children who have attended Garden School, I wholeheartedly recommend it, as both have thrived academically, socially, and emotionally in this robustly challenging and nurturing environment. The small class sizes (our initial draw to the school) and exceptional teachers have allowed for personalized attention; in turn I have seen both my children's confidence grow, their intellectual curiosity fostered, and their individuality cherished. Due to this, they both have blossomed into happy, independent-thinking children. The Garden School community is a wonderfully inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to be their best selves. The school's cultural atmosphere helps children be kind, respectful, and responsible, qualities that have made a lasting impact on both of my children. One thing that stands out when you visit the campus is that it is not uncommon to see kids of all ages interacting with one another socially and academically, as the school goes from nursery up to the 12th grade. This includes the extracurricular offerings, which are many: from athletics, the arts, or academic clubs, the range of options is impressive. Both of my children have been able to explore their interests outside of the classroom, from music and drama to science and sports, helping them develop skills that we feel will serve them well in the future. As parents, there is so much uncertainty about the myriad variables that can affect children, one being the quality of education. For us, we have found Garden School to be exceptional at fostering the self-worth necessary for our children to succeed.

Our daughter has attended Garden School for a long time and loves her experience immensely. She has great teachers who know her well and challenge her while being incredibly supportive. They come to her volleyball games and cheer her on and it means a great deal as her dad to see that level of caring from the faculty. We could not be happier with our choice to be a Garden Family.

Garden is small by design. It is organically diverse and has served the Queens community for 100 years. It is a school on the move with a lot of exciting things happening on campus. The school's rich traditions have laid a solid foundation from which it continues to grow and prepare itself for the next 100 years.

I am a specialist that comes in to work with the students at Garden School. The students at Garden are such a pleasure to work with. They are incredibly kind, hard working, and they are enthusiastic about learning. There is a strong sense of community there and you can feel it when you walk through the door. The teachers are bright, talented, and challenge the student while creating continuous opportunities for joyful learning. I would rarely ever write a review for a school, but this one is particularly special.

This is a wonderful school and a great community. We are pretty new to the community and have found it to be warm, unpretentious, inclusive, and diverse. It is a real reflection of Queens and NYC. This school is an authentic place with caring and smart teachers. The campus is quaint and is surprisingly spacious once you begin to make your way around. There is a huge gymnasium, a swimming pool, a theater, bright new classrooms, and a lot of other nice additions that have come recently to enhance the Sciences and the Arts.

My two sons graduated from Garden School, after attending school for 9 and 14 years consecutively. They considered the school to be their home away from home and picking them up every day from after-school in their early years was always a challenge because they never wanted to leave. My sons both received individual attention from teachers to help them become independent, kind, and focused individuals that they are today. The education is superior as evidenced by my younger son’s recent graduation from Princeton University. Thank you Garden School for the wonderful experience!

My child began this school after trying out a private school and public school environment. She was able to receive extraordinary one to one attention, guidance and mentoring. This environment was the one that help mold her into the wonderful teenager that she has become and help guide her into furthering the academic path into a prestigious college. Her academic advisors were not limited to one specific individual but to many that help fostered her learning throughout her time in Garden School and I applaud them for their dedication and commitment to all their students. If you looking for a school that is a second home to your child Garden School is def the one!

Excellent school with an exceptional staff. My child is very happy here and we see the school making great progress every year. Beautiful, calm, and serene 100 year old institution where learning is the only concern of the teachers, staff, and admins. Love the traditions and the focus on being at the cutting edge of education.

My wife and I have been raving about Garden School to our friends ever since our first daughter entered their Nursery program in 2010. Our two other children have followed since and they love every aspect of the school: the caring and professional expertise from their teachers and staff; the small classroom setting; the freedom to join sports and extracurricular clubs; the opportunity to travel domestically and internationally; and the safe and nurturing environment that many other schools fail to provide. As parents, It is also exciting to witness the multiple changes in infrastructure in order to accommodate for new learning spaces as the school looks forward to its centennial celebration in the in the year to come.

My son, William, was a student at Garden School from 5th grade until his graduation in 2022. Garden was a second home where he thrived. When he was younger there was always a disagreement to get him to leave his friends in afterschool. It was amazing to see the progression of such a well rounded person. The administration and teachers are very supportive. Thank you to everyone who helped shape the person my child is today!

Pros: In Jackson heights, diverse student population but depends on grade, bus drivers are organized, the new head of school seems good, lower tuition than other schools.Cons: Bullying is not effectively addressed, kids take out devices in class all the time, children whose parents teach at the school are treated more favorably, glaring lack of diversity in faculty and leadership, quality of faculty is not great, seems like they teach the same material as previous years and no innovation, token study of diversity in the curriculum, music program is not great, books are outdated and not discussed in context of todays world, kids in middle school/late elementary school have lots of tests, the parents association does few fundraisers and social events but no meetings, school feels disorganized in general, when raise issues given lots of assurances that they will be addressed but then papered over and treated as if things are better when they’re not.

Garden School is a quaint yet powerful private school located in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world. Students feel at home and yet are challenged to think from a worldly perspective analyzing current events in context to historical themes. Encouraging individual curiosities, passions, and interests, Garden School provides a range of experiences - i.e. art, drama, music, sports, debate, key club, after school, and more. The School is undergoing some amazing renovations, helping elevate the experience of its students. Garden School's community is one of connection, caring, and collaboration. Families arrange for social gatherings outside of school to help create a greater sense of community. Teachers know their students and support them beyond their academic needs. The administration, especially in the upper school, is responsive and fully committed to the mental, physical, and cognitive well-being of all their students. Our family highly recommends Garden School to any interested family!

Our daughter has been a student in the Garden School since she was in Kindergarten, and is now entering third grade. We couldn't have found a better community- the teachers and caring, dedicated, and work hard to ensure every child learns. The individualized attention has been key for my daughter, who struggles in reading but excels in other areas. The teachers are able to meet her where she needs to be, and challenge her to learn and grow further. It's also an exciting time to be at Garden- new leadership has revitalized the school and there are more new programs, facilities upgrades, and enrichment available to students than ever before. But most of all, Garden is a family. We are so fortunate to have stumbled upon Garden, and are incredibly grateful to have found such a caring, supportive community.

Our daughter has been a student in the Garden School since she was in the Nursery. She is now going into the third grade. For six years we have been proud members of the Garden community and plan to continue into the future. We are both full-time working parents and so Garden was there for us when we were seeking a strong school, quality, seamless after school care as well as an excellent summer camp. Every teacher, counselor, coach, administrator and staff member cares about the school and the kids. Each student gets one-on-one time with the teacher because the classes are small which leads to level appropriate instruction for each child based on whether they need more support or need to be challenged. Under the excellent leadership of Headmaster Chris Herman, the facilities are being upgraded and the programming is being enhanced. Lower School Head Bill Vogel has been a steady force for many years. It is clear that the staff and faculty enjoy working at the Garden School which makes for a happy environment with thriving students. We highly recommend the Garden School and feel so fortunate to have our daughter in a school where she has wonderful friends and people who know and look out for her.

What a wonderful school. We found Garden for our son before starting middle school. Now he is heading to high school next year and we are so thrilled with the programs being offered to high schoolers at Garden. From teachers, to administrators, to the community, it has been a very nice experience and we'd easily recommend the school to anyone looking for a place that engages kids and makes learning fun and challenging.

From the 6th grade through the 12th, my child had been enrolled at the Garden School. They taught her how to use her intellectual curiosity, how to be successful in life and achieve goals. As important to me as a parent is that she is a good person, making good choices in large part due to their influence. She thrived at Garden School and continues to thrive as she was well taught.

My child loves Garden School and can't wait to get there each day. She started in the nursery program and now is in high school. I feel confident that she is learning from caring, thoughtful, and very professional teachers. She feels challenged, and there are many new electives. The class sizes are small and my child receives the individualized attention that the school is known for. Garden School has a diverse student population, and children learn from a young age to understand and respect other cultures. The students that graduate from here become responsible caring citizens. They're the kids you want your kids to be friends with. The school is fortunate to have a new headmaster who has brought positive changes to the school. He takes time to learn about and work with new and established families, and is motivated and dedicated to making the school a truly exceptional place.
