My child joined the 9th grade at Interlochen Arts Academy in 2024 as an international student from China. This was his first time traveling so far from home on his own. In just a few months, I’ve been thrilled to see him adapt to managing his time, caring for his daily routines, and immersing himself in the community and academics. This incredible growth is thanks to the school’s thoughtful support and care for each student. The teachers are patient, attentive, and always ready to help, making him feel encouraged. What impressed me most is the school’s amazing language support for international students, helping him quickly overcome barriers and engage fully in class. Interlochen also provides incredible opportunities like community service, performances, and masterclasses, which have boosted his confidence and passion for learning. As a parent, I’m deeply grateful that my child is thriving in such a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.

I had an amazing experience at Interlochen. To say that it changed my life would be an understatement. I attended the academy and both my academic and artistic education were changed. Each day they have a dedicated arts block in the afternoon including music theory and chamber music classes. I was a boarding student and had a great time. I came in not knowing anyone and left the place with lifelong friends. As for activities, I was able to start my own club as well as participate in sports like soccer and crosscountry. I just finished my undergraduate degree and am now heading to Northwestern University. I was able to attend my dream school because of the college prep resources available to me. It truly is a life changing experience and I would do it all over again if I could.

I first came to camp in 2015-2016 as an intermediate voice and opera student. My singing chops and competence improved in only three weeks (six weeks total). I came back in my Senior year and studied Creative Writing. While there, I made lifelong friends, became a pretty good volleyball player, made great connections with faculty, became a better writer (and can now boast of being published!), and got into my dream college. Interlochen is not just an arts school but also academically rigorous and a place to make unforgettable memories. I'm unbelievably proud to call it my home away from home.

This is our second year at the school with a child in the music department. He has learned so much, improved as a musician, found dear and supportive friends, and simply loves to be at school. What more could you ask for!

This is the premiere arts school that you must see to believe. The campus is picturesque. The teachers are skilled and invested in student growth. The students are spectacularly gifted. So many opportunities here! The Interlochen family meets and exceeds my expectation at every level; thank you!

EXCELLENT! I cannot imagine a better setting for a young artist. As the parent of an also academically gifted child I was concerned that the school wouldn’t be able to meet his academic needs as well as artistic, but Interlochen has exceeded my expectations

This is a premier school for the arts. The tranquil location allows students to focus on their art and studies. The school has exceeded my expectations again and again.

It has exceeded my expectations. My son calls and thanks me often for sending him there. He says he’s living his best life, and that makes it all worth while!

Exceptional. I truly believe that Interlochen serves as an example of what modern education should look like for all students, and we are so proud that our son has this wonderful opportunity to grow, learn and thrive in a community of artists and peers.

My son graduated from Interlochen, and I have a daughter there now. It has been a life-changing experience for them. If you are looking for an intensive pre-professional arts program, integrated with rigorous college-prep academics, this is the school for you.

Our experience was absolutely fantastic and we have no regrets. It was the best place for our child to be challenged academically as well as artistically. The place is magical and my child will never forget her time there.

There has been a real problem with drinking and drugs on campus this year, parents have complained about sexual misconduct, former heroine addicts have been accepted...and yet the administration covers it all up.The college guidance counselors are not helpful or responsive. You're on your own for SAT prep, and any help in that department. They will happily take your money however!!Wish we hadn't sent 2 students there. A real disappointment, felt by lots of parents.

I am an alumnus of Interlochen Arts Academy, and I could not be more satisfied with the time I spent there. It is one of the most unique high school experiences a young person could possibly have. Talented students from all over the world come together to create amazing art and friendships that last a lifetime. Living on campus as a boarding student requires a level of maturity that most students arrive with or quickly acquire. Thanks in part to both the academic and artistic education I received at Interlochen, I was accepted into an Ivy League university where I then thrived. Interlochen prepared me to take on a rigorous courseload and to continue pursuing my art form as an extra-curricular activity. After college, I moved to New York City where I continue to have meaningful interactions with my fellow alumni through which I can stay very highly involved in the arts. I recommend it very highly.

Interlochen AA is amazing! It has small class sizes and challenging academics that prepare the students for college. I'm so pleased with this school so far.

Some people are happy with IAA, We have an A student, organized, and "talented" i.e. First chair in public school orchestra, 3rd chair at Interlochen Summer Camp. Interlochen Arts Academy (2012 - 2013) A SERIOUS DISAPPOINTMENT Regrettable disappointment IAA Music Instructors: talented musicians, canceling class, late for class, moody, inconsistent IAA Academics: disappointment, EASY, slowing the pace to accommodate "slackers", then skipping chapters to "catch up" Weather: Cold cold Colder Campus: charming, wooded, beautiful, park like setting, Teachers: more engaging than public schools, permissive Challenge: less challenging than public schools; some good projects, easy but engaging Students: seem to be "skating" and the staff is totally accommodating; low test scores, come in for "test corrections" Freshman violin : weekly lesson and daily orchestra, and a weekly studio class (cancelled 40% of the time) Where's the BEEF? What a bust (for us)!

Interlochen has changed greatly. In terms of quality of teachers and quality of stdents. I am referring to the Visual Arts program which is terrible. Unbelievable how its level could be so low. Interlochen is only good if you are in the Music or Performing Arts, but if you are into Visual Arts run as far away as possible from this place.
