My older child was happy at CFI 84 for 6 years (I am happy to have my younger child there now). But in year 7, my older child was depressed and didn't feel like he fit in. We tried a lot of things (therapy, medication,) but he was persistently miserable and increasingly disconnected. I had no complaints about the teaching but it wasn't a community that really cherished oddball kids. We walked by a sign for School for Community Learning and called them. My child spent a day there, then another day there...and then decided that he wanted to move there. He has been absolutely consistent that he feels so much belonging in this small middle school community. I am thrilled that he feels so comfortable and that he is with such a strange and diverse group of kids who are so wholly themselves. He is engaged in learning again and is receptive to new ideas.

We entered SCL in January 2023 after traditional public school k-2 and 1.5 years of homeschooling.SCL is a real community learning environment that has exceeded our expectations.Kids and adults know about each other across grades and treat each other well. There are many collaborative experiences I hear about during the school week. Students do go out in the surrounding community and spend a large amount of time outside especially in nice weather. We get good communication via email and we are always welcome to be involved. In the morning our kid looks forward to being at school and in the afternoon she comes home with energy and ideas.

Our "top rated" public school was not meeting the needs of our daughter due to their inability to adapt to different ways of learning. We decided to try SCL after a recommendation from a friend and our daughter was instantly happier and her academics soared! We drive 30 minutes to and from school just to provide her the education and environment she deserves.

SCL offers my son an environment tailored to his individual need to learn. The staffs ability to focus on the whole student is enticing as academics tend to over shadow any social or emotional goals. I know at SCL my son is more than a grade on a piece of paper, and as a parent that feels good.

My son has attended SCL for three years and I absolutely love it. The class sizes are small. The teachers are dedicated, responsive and just plain amazing. I love that he is getting a firm grounding in how he can shape and impact his world. He is academically gifted and this is a terrific school for him. I also love that families and children from across differences form one big family here. This is truly a gem of a school!

School for Community Learning is a great school, has a great mission, but has a long way to go in terms of being accepting of other cultures, ethnicities & races. Overall, my daughter enjoyed her classes, teachers and friends that she made, but she had an issue with one particular student that seemed to think it was okay to use racial slurs. This particular student didn't just use them with her, but according to my daughter she used them with other students, as well as other words, that weren't very nice. Excuses were made time and time again for this student. She was disrespectful to her peers, teachers, etc and she received no repercussions. There are currently no disciplinary measures in place (detention,in school suspension, out of school suspension, etc.) I only know of one instance of someone being expelled, but not sure the reasoning behind it.

My son began here in 3rd grade from a wonderful public school and I haven't looked back since! While his previous school was great, it pales in comparison to SCL! Here he is free to be himself in a supportive and enriching environment. He learns through several different modalities and is NEVER taught to the test (although they do ISTEP, it is not at all the focus of his learning). In a single year he advanced 3 grade levels in reading and 2 in math. He comes home everyday excited about what he learned and wakes up every morning excited about what the day might bring (well, maybe not everyday, he is a 4th grader after all...but a significant improvement from the fight to get him to school previously). I only wish they had more funding to expand the size of the school overall, but am happy that what funding they do have goes directly to my child's education; I am sure the space will come in time. The teachers and staff know my child (and our family) on sight and it is a great community feel. They also know what strengths and challenges my son faces and create the right learning experience just for him. I cannot even imagine going to another school!

We love the learning environment, the fantastic faculty and different class offerings. Our daughter has taken her choice of art classes, yoga, and outdoor classes and has loved each course. She is excelling in math and growing in reading. She loves to go to school and that says a lot! Project Libertas was the best choice.

Project Libertas is an Independent School that emphasizes project-based learning and emphasizes social justice. For my high-energy 2nd-grader, this is the perfect combination to maximize his achievement. Project Libertas is a perfect school for anyone who values focusing on individual students, rather than grade levels, and on teaching the right way, rather than teaching to the test.
