Both of my children attended his school. My youngest is in 5th grade and been in the SNAP program since 5th grade. The entire team their (Grade level teachers, therapists, and specials teachers). They do a fantastic job of making sure your child is placed in the right classroom to meet their needs. My oldest child did so well at Leggee and was well prepared for middle school. My children said they feel safe there.

Leggee is one of the most recommended schools in the area but after having been here for more than 3 years (and in district 158 for 6 years) I am very disappointed. It is probably a great school for the neurotypical child, but as a parent with 3 special needs kids, 2 with ADHD and 1 with autism, I am sorely disappointed. They try to skirt by and do the bare minimum. IEPs in place are not followed through. I found many gaps in my sons IEP accommodations that they simply just didn’t do because they didn’t think it was necessary. That’s not for you to decide? It’s in the IEP for a reason, you must adhere to it. Could I get a lawyer? Probably but I am too emotionally exhausted to deal with these people anymore. My child fell so behind on reading (he has a reading learning disability) despite me fighting tooth and nail for focus on mastery rather than quantity of homework and schoolwork. They could care less and just kept pushing him, causing him to be distressed and have anxiety. His tests scores were dismal at school, and when taken for testing at a neuropsych he reads at barely a kindergarten level, though he’s going into 3rd grades. Also his reading intervention group just gives him the answers every time he’s struggling to sound out a word or spell. That’s not teaching! Also a teacher just straight out told me if my kid with ADHD just tried hard enough he could do everything the rest of the class did. She has zero understanding of how ADHD and a reading learning disability directly impact a child’s ability to learn. For my other child they just straight up punished him for being Autistic and having ADHD, casting the burden of shame on him for every mistake while at the same time refusing to accommodate or support his needs in order to PREVENT any negative behaviors. Special needs accommodations aren’t just reactionary, they also must be preparatory in order to prevent unwanted behaviors, stimming, being unregulated, etc. But when I requested a domain meeting for a 504/IEP, we’ll let’s just say good luck getting it in place. They will drag their feet and purposefully extend the time it takes to do domain, evals, and eligibility meetings to the latest time they can do it. When you do FINALLY meet then they will only give the bare minimum in accommodations or write off medical diagnoses as not that big a deal or impacting on education. They truly fail on special education. Their motto is “all kids always” but that’s not the case at all for the neurodivergent

I have 2 kids that went K-5 at Leggee. The Teachers were wonderful and I can not say enough about their principal Mr. Scott Iddings. He has an inspirational talk every morning durring the announcements. The whole staff works closely with parents to provide the best environment for the children

I don't know what to say at this point. We are into our second year and I haven't been too impressed. First year my child came home with ticks from the play ground. We are in an area that is at risk for lime disease. I was told by the nurse that they had gotten a bad batch of wood chips for the play ground one year that had ticks and that they were aware of the problem. I took back 2 dead ticks and one live one to the office so they could see. And they sent my child home with one of them in a ziploc. Now that the new year has started we went to 1st grade open house and at the district office the hours for open house were listed as 4:30-6:30. We got there at 6:03. We made our way to the room and then we were told to put our things down and leave by an assistant principle. I asked why and she said open house ended at 6:00 and I said I saw at the district office it said 6:30. She said no it didn't and I was again told to leave. Not so sure these 1st two years sound so great. I am embarrassed that the assisted principle felt her behavior was professional. I didn't even know what room number to send my first grader to on the first day of school.

If you want your child to have a WONDERFUL school, Leggee is the place! We just moved to the area, and even though it was hard to get our son into the school since we moved here almost right near registration cut off date, I am SO glad we chose this area. First off, Huntley itself has that All American small-town feel- but the schools are VERY progressive. When I first saw Leggee, I wished I had been able to go to a school like that when I was a child. We all want our kids to have better than we did, so my son is getting the best. His teacher, wow, all I can say is she is very down to earth and approachable. There is not a base that this school misses. I am looking forward to MANY years in Distict 158!

We have been in the area around 2 years and love this school. They are very proactive and extremely reactive. My kids class sizes are around 24. Much less than our previous district that lies on their profile. Awesome teachers and administrators. We came from what we thought was one of the best school districts in Illinois and it doesnt hold a candle to Dist 158.

We love this school. It offers so many opportunities for children to grow and develop. It is a great school with tons of interaction for both kids and parents. Teachers are some of the best in the country! Absolutely a fantastic school!!!
