This school is pathetic. They do not protect our children. The teachers are uncaring and the aids are unqualified. The Principal is incompetent.

I have 2 daughters (4rd and 6th grade) attending MC Smith. While I will not pretend that there aren't problems, I have to give an above average rating. This rating is based on the teachers. My girls have had the privilege to have the same particular teacher for 3rd & 4th grade. She is beyond amazing and each of my girls (with very different learning styles and strengths) have thrived in her care. Each primary teacher my oldest has had for 5th and 6th are wonderful and creative. The final thing I want to say is about the band. The band teacher is outstanding!!! There is no cringing in the audience when a newly formed 4th grade band starts to play. Every year each band grows because of his talent at bringing out the children's talents! I know he is moving on to the high school soon and I am happy for my older daughter to continue to have him and sad for my younger daughter who likely will not have him throughout her middle school career. With less than adequate funding and serious lack of parental involvement for a large number of children, this school still does great things. Yes, there are issues. But, my kids have never been just a statistic to the teachers or the principal.

Beautiful school with dedicated teachers and staff. Lots of extras for the kids thanks to the wonderful PTA. My child has many friends, same age, who go to other supposedly "better" districts, but they all (mine included) seem to be learning the same things at the same pace. If you stay involved in your kids' lives, it doesn't matter where they go to school - they will do well with your guidance.
