I heard so many bad things about this school and was quite apprehensive about sending my child there. These have been the best three years of school for my child so far. This child has gone from not doing schoolwork to keeping an A/B average including some honors classes. The principal sets the tone for leadership at this school and strives to make it a welcoming & safe space for all students. She understands that she is working with a very diverse student population and strives to serve all families in an appropriate way. The students are provided opportunities for two field trips during the school year through the school itself. Families are made aware from the beginning about the standards required to attend these trips. Her example of leadership filters down through the staff. Most of the teachers have been very willing to communicate with me about my child's IEP and how best to provide the accommodations needed. Discipline is equally applied, and staff communicates well with parents about your child's actions and the consequences they are receiving. Front office staff if very friendly, welcoming & helpful. The coaches provide great leadership to the student athletes and do more than just push the students to win/win/win. They hold their athletes to high standards of conduct & academic performance. There are overall so many chances for the students to try the arts, athletics and other extracurricular activities without if being high pressure. I feel my student has explored so many things and found the activities that fit them the best.

Space Center is like any other school in the sense that some of the teachers are great some are not. My son was only at Space Center a yr and in that year I struggled to gain support with the special education/IEP department. My son relocated out of state and I transfer his IEP with him. Long story short they changed his classes to be in "on level" and reduced his speech therapy to 30 minutes per month. They told me I could change it back if it Didn't work. Needless to say his grades slipped and so did his confidence. His case manager (someone who I would think of as an advocate) actually advocated against my recommendation to change his speech therapy back to 30 minutes per week. We're located back to our home town were at his new schedule they immediately changed his speech therapy back to 30 minutes per week and placed him back in the appropriate class. His special education personnel (who is actually from Texas and worked there for yrs) told me she had never heard of 30 minutes per month for speech therapy... Not even in Texas. Bottom line, if you have a special needs child at this school, consult with an IEP advocate as they are likely to cut your child's services and pretend that they are doing it for the benefit of your child.

This is the worst school ever. The students misbehave and have no consequences for how they act. The Teachers give the students so many chances. The theatre teacher is especially rude, she also try's to be funny, but she not. Also the office ladies are so freaking rude! They always snap at me when I go in there to pick something up. The principle is a snob, she doesn't do anything about the problems at this school. In fact, all the principles turn their heads when someone tells them there has been sex in the restrooms. They think they know what the problems are but they don't. This year I requested for a schedule change at the end of the semester and they told me they couldn't do anything about it. That's a lie. several other kids got changes in the MIDDLE of the semester. They don't want to make life harder for themselves. That means that if you have a problem and they can fix it, they aren't going to do it because it makes them work. Also at lunch all of them yell in the microphone at the same time. Ever since I've been here, my mental health has gone down. Keep your kid out of Space Center. This school has, drugs, vapes, and sex, and no one does anything about it.

I was an OMEGA student for 3 years. First, the academics were under par. There is an extreme grade inflation where the teachers give A's easily. I got straight A's solely because of this. However I remember having to deal with specific very unprofessional teachers, teachers who didn't care about their jobs and cared more about telling stories about their personal life or being a coach, and the list goes on. I took the highest classes available and still felt inadequately prepared for some classes in high school. Second, the economic and social diversity is incredibly disappointing. Yes there are students with a lower income background and students with a higher income background, but there was no mixing whatsoever and the OMEGA program only reinforced it. You could clearly see a racial+economic split and there was no encouragement to try and fix it. Third, this school is so overpopulated that it was so difficult to walk through hallways without feeling invaded. In fact, none of us were allowed to wear backpacks because it would take up too much room. Overall I do not recommend this school and there are many problems needed to be fixed.

This school is great for SOME people. I really liked most things about this school such as athletics and academics. I was in the OMEGA program all 3 years and took PreAP everything else and most of my teachers were great. This school has room for improvement in several areas such as projects. I got a lot of projects and sometimes (but not all the time) teachers weren't very willing to help. I would have questions and to answer those questions they would give us guidelines which didn't help AT ALL!! Literally none of the requirements would even made sense. Another problem this school has, and why it is only great for some people, is that some of the students tend to shun other students that aren't the same as they are. I was one of the popular, athletic guys so I didn't notice at the time, but thinking back on it some of the people in my social group weren't very nice to less popular people. The "preps" and the ghetto kids really never got along and could be pretty mean at times. Many of the people in advanced classes, myself included, lived in Bay Oaks and had money and looked down on those that didn't have money because we thought they weren't as good as we were.

An excellent mix of academic, athletic, and fine arts. The school does draw from the spectrum of parent backgrounds - from lower economic to very accomplished economic backgrounds so the students bring that to class with them. The advanced academic classes are primarily students who's parents are comfortable, the students there have all of the most recent electronics for instance. The teachers are somewhat aware of this and try to encourage the students to get along. The facilities are very good and classes have supplies they need. The music programs are excellent.

This school is extremely disappointing. From my sibling's experience, teachers refuse to help students, such as with lockers, and the pickup system is appalling. My mom has to wait 30 min to an hour just for the pickup. Frankly, I'd recommend a better school.

Although the education is great at this school, the students are very stuck-up and snobbish. Being a new student at this school is a nightmare, and if you're not smart or popular, you're basically ignored.
