This is a great school for teachers who have their kids there. They are treated better than families who pay / donate. All the posts in social media are mostly from kids from teachers and staff. This is how they retain their teachers by having their families there. The student body is probably half of the staff that works there. Its great for them. But not as much for families who pay / donate. They feel entitled. There is nothing in place for learning differences. If your kid has a learning difference do not apply. And do not be deceived. It is a business, at the end they want the application but they will not take them in. Academics are great, they do prepare the kids. But again, only accept the smart kids or kids from teachers. It is also an open campus. There are a lot of shootings nowadays in Houston. It does make me scared. Carpool is a joke, you drop off your kid in the opposite side of the campus and they have to walk to their class. In an open campus again with construction workers. We are heartbroken and put in a bad situation by admissions. One of my kids was not accepted. They didn't care for our family. And I know people who got their family all in just because they are teachers / staff there. It is not ok to split a family. They do not live by their "Christian" belief. It is not Christian to reject a sibling. The admissions team is the worst here, really deceiving. Beware. "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." Romans 15:7

Absolutely no diversity of thought. No room for discussion. If you are anything other than a Republican, even just moderate, have fun never speaking up when someone says something you disagree with. No one will have your back. There were anti-trans/anti-gay upperschool assemblies. Regardless of opinions, that's ridiculous. If you don't fit the mold, you will be made fun of. Maybe not to your face, but it's happening. You'll find your group, but you're still being looked down on by everyone else. Also, if you join at anytime other than elementary school, the friend groups are pretty well established. The actual education is good. Other than teachers being very politically opinionated, the're effective. It's likely not much better than whatever public school you're zoned to. Keep in mind this place costs slightly less than college tuition. If you want to go to UT or A&M, don't go here. You will be fighting for a spot in the top 6% that will consist of 4 students that are spending thousands on tutors. Try your luck at any public school. If you want a traditional "high-school" experience at all, go somewhere else. Also safety-wise, there are armed guards. So it is safe in that way. You are absolutely not safe from harsh punishment and ridicule.

Wonderful teachers and administrators who care - we have 3 kids at SBS and are very happy with their experience (kids are very happy as well).

Prospective families need to know is this is a Baptist School, so don't expect it to be anything else. Also, be very aware that the campus is wide open. Since it is first and foremost a church, anyone can access campus at any time during the school day. Even kids that have been asked to leave the school for disciplinary reasons are allowed on campus because it is also a church. The upper school is particularly at risk with full access and lots of places that are out of sight like the stairwells. But, even younger students travel alone on the wide open campus. Also, plan on spending a couple extra thousand on tutors. Everyone does it, even the A students. On any given day there are a dozen tutors in a room on campus seeing one student after another tutoring the above average students with no learning differences just so they can have higher GPAs. Again, there are some excellent teachers here and some excellent role models in the coaching staff, but you must make sure your child fits the Second mold to be successful at this school.

I left before high school. Now I go to school with real, normal Christ followers. Academics were way behind. Go live your life well for Christ. You probably don’t need this place.

My son started here in PK and is now in 6th grade. He absolutely loves school. He has made some great friends along the way. I know he's getting a great education and we've felt the partnership of the school each step of the way.

So many quality students and families have left the school, quality teachers have been run off by a large group of parents who have turned this into their social club and seem to need it desperately. There is no independent governance. Parents run the curriculum amuck. There is no board of directors, only socially ambitious women who will viciously defend it (or are just insecure and in denial) because it’s their platform. No quality school would put up with their sillyness. The ever revolving door of school leadership continues to have a tiger by the tail.

Second Baptist School loves their students and families well. We've built a strong community at this school. I am confident in the ways the faculty and staff love my daughter - I've seen it in how they challenge her mind and nurture her heart. They want her to be the best that she can be and won't let her settle for mediocrity. We trust SBS to walk alongside us in preparing our daughter to be a leader wherever she ends up doing what God has called her to do!

My family has really enjoyed our time at SBS. My kids love it and we are pleased with our decision to send them a school that cares about their education and their hearts.

HORRIBLE. ADMINISTATORS ARE BIASED AND DON'T PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. BULLYING IS RAMPANT AND THE SCHOOL JUST WANTS TO SWEEP IT UNDER THE RUG.

The school is an excellent example of Christian Education.

The stated principals claimed to be taught isn't being instilled into the children that attend. If the result is to develop and prepare children to be leaders then I question the leaders they are producing. But this is America where we all have the right to choose - and given I served in the military that has been a lesson learned - while you would expect at least some measure of respect for doing so, others have the same right to hate you and your children. If you give enough money beyond the tuition, the harassment of your child will stop. It's a high school version of Baylor University - blame the victim and not fix the problem - it's the law of the jungle -strong will survive but if I read the Bible correctly, it says "the meek shall inherit the earth".

Bullying is rampant at Second Baptist School. The administration is aware and intentionally indifferent. Any student who complains of bullying receives retribution and not compassion nor correction. The school is an embarrassment to its stated Christian faith.

This school has some good teachers, but academics are no where close to a priority. Sports and the musical are the most important things at SBS.
