Amazing school, amazing faculty and parents. Hoboken is a great community and the school has improved so much over the last 15-20 years, it has really transformed its image in the community and across New Jersey as well as the broader region.

The school unfortunately a operates withiun a school system that is self referential and not student centric. That becomes evident when problems arise with a student’s performance because of a learning disability. The school is unable and unwilling to provide student-centered solutions as is evidenced by the inability to simply and seemlessly build on previous years’ successes if they occur. Competence issues are never addressed properly and accountability is non existent especially among special education case managers. This has been a bad experience that has lead us to the decision to move outside the school district.

Some of the teachers are great, some of them are not. I am not happy at all with the change in the method of teaching mathematics. Grades 1 to 6 are switching from Singapore Math to Investigations and Connected Math. As a math teacher, I have to say that they are downgrading from a great method to two poor methods of teaching math. I know that 5th and 6th graders have already switched to the Connected Math method, while the change in method for first to 4th graders will happen in the fall 2018. In an open letter to US Secretary of Education, mathematicians and scientists from leading universities had already expressed opposition to the teaching methods listed above and had pointed out serious mathematical shortcomings in them. They asked for withdrawal of these programs and urged for inclusion of well-respected mathematicians in any future evaluation of mathematics curricula conducted by the U.S. Department of Education. I guess whoever decided against Singapore Math in the Hoboken public school district was not a math teacher.:( Too bad they change the good things instead of focusing on the bad ones.:(

I have two children who attend Wallace elementary school. Both are doing excellent academically and socially. They are continuously challenged and enriched in their classes, the gifted and talented program and afterschool Passport to Learning program. Both love Wallace and have enormous pride in their school and have excellent and supportive teachers. Our new Wallace school administrators Principal Shannon and Vice Principal Bartlett are smart strong leaders. When Mr. Shannon and Mr. Bartlett came to Wallace, within 6 months they made a huge positive impact on our school academically and operationally. We have seen the countless hours they work and the dedication and passion they have for our children’s social and academic well-being and safety. They both continue to build a strong environment of academic excellence and a feeling of family for our school community. In addition our new superintendent is amazing and continues to strengthen our schools thru innovative programs and improvements throughout the schools.

Summer Chaos in Wallace!!! With lack of leadership children are been tossed around from classroom to classroom, teacher to teacher, like greens on a salad. Why the school bother to have move up day and then throw it out the window. Totally disappointed. Test scores this year were low again!! below national average... hint, hint! This is a major red flag. The school needs help!!!

Wallace is a great school. The staff cares a lot about the students. There are programs available. Parents are encouraged to be involved with their child's school. The PTO is the best. They go above and beyond for the children. There was no other school I thought about sending my kids to.

Wallace is a dynamic school that caters to the needs of the students. The teachers went above and beyond to ensure that my two children would be successful. They offer fun after school clubs and camps, many of the teachers offer tutoring, and the front office staff are like extended family.
