I love Commonwealth Academy. My children are very successful.

Children are taught more than the basic educational standards. They experience real life situations and complete hands on projects. Commonwealth doesn't just talk about it, they live it!

Former teacher at this school and would NOT recommend it for any teacher or child. Unsafe environment, office staff sometimes not present and phones are not in rooms. MEAP scores ridiculously low.

Commonwealth Community Development Academy Is clearly a FAILING SCHOOL! I would not recommend this school to anyone unless your looking for a a babysitter! The administrators and their practices are terrible! The conditions of building aren't the best for students or staff members! They are ranked as one of the worst schools in Detroit! Not one of their students passed the MEAP successfully which is evidence that they are deficient in many areas! Overall, if you want your child to have a valuable learning experience don't send them to Commonwealth Community Development Academy!

I really don't even know where to start but please take this review seriously. I am a former teacher and for all teachers looking for a job? Keep looking. For all the parents looking for a school? Keep looking. Teachers: you can do better. I promise. I worked there for many years because I got comfortable and was scared to look, but there were only empty promises from administration and very poor working conditions. Parents: do NOT continue to enroll your students here. Please. Yes, they pay money for good programs, but they don't provide teachers with what they need, they don't even know what their teachers are doing most of the time! Behavior is horrible and even the best behaved student becomes out of control. There are days that there isn't even anyone inthe office. They are so lucky that there has not been an emergency. They were on the worst schools list by the newspaper for a reason. You can see this in their MEAP scores. It is inexcusable. This school needs to be shutdown, and Eastern needs to wake up, do a site visit, interview teachers, and they will see past the smoke and mirrors.
