Do not be fool by the previous ratings and comments. Most of the previous posting are from faculty and the principle. The school is awful. If you care about your children education avoid this school. If possible avoid the Gulfport (there are only two good schools in the district, which are Anniston and Bayou Elementary) and Harrison county. One good thing about West is that there are a couple teachers that are good, the ones that were kept from the previous administration. West, care more about behavior and academics, which I believe that both are as important. The worst part of the school is the principal. Overall, do not send your kid. For parents that have children there report the administration bad behavior. Don't just go to the superintendent (because he doesn't do NOTHING) Go tot the school boardIf you don't get help there go to the Mississippi department of education.and if you get no help there go to the Federal Department of Justice.

As a former principal of this school, I could not have envisioned West as it stands today. Upon my arrival 9yrs ago, the building was new and shiny. we had to keep the white walls white. Two prinipals and a summer later I cam say, "What a difference a summer makes!" Students and parents will enter a newly designed learning experience at West Elementary August 19. Kudos to the new principal, Kenny Hudson and the staff for their tireless efforts. The school is beautiful and inviting. I'm so excited for the children.

I have been in the navy 17 years and this by far is the worst school my kids have ever been in. I pulled my kids out and put them in westminister academy. So if you are going to live in base housing send you kids to a private school
