The school lacks standards for incoming students grades and goes their brought in. They claim to be military friendly, but does nothing to help ease the transition with transfers. The staff fails to provide clarity and cannot provide a unified answer when asked for assistance. The teachers are more useful than the staff when it comes to working with students.

This school doesn’t transfer grades for incoming kids that have to move during the year. They will send you to several different people to get an answer why and they will all say something different. They say they are military family friendly but that doesn’t apply to the kids who don’t have a choice to move once the school year has already started. The principal doesn’t know, the counselor doesn’t know, the teachers are told something else by the office, then you have to call the district where they say to call the principal. So your kids won’t get their grades from their old school and have to take tests on teaching they haven’t learned and that’s their grade. My student was also randomly punched in the hall for no reason two weeks into a new school. Moved specifically to Columbia county for the schools and it was the biggest mistake we’ve made.

Black students, especially black boys are not treated equally by the principal and several teachers. Black boys are most likely to be suspended and disciplined than any other race at Columbia Middle School. The implicit bias against my son started at the beginning of 6th grade and continued through 8th grade. So many black students have transferred from this school because of these issues. The leaders of this school should consider using compassionate intervention strategies and learn how to build positive relationships with black students.

This school is bad for a number of reasons. 1). There are a lot of held back students in this school, they act absolutely ridiculous. Some are super disrespectful to staff and have no sense of home training whatsoever. Im a current 8th grader here and this is my final year here, and from what I've sen so far with students, it has been awful so far with fights, drama, conflict between students and teachers, and just utter stupidity. On a side note Im currently in a relationship but even then, its best to keep it hidden in this school as supposed to making it even slightly public. She's been harassed by others and that just doesn't sit well 2) The faculty here is you basic standard school faculty. A lot of them are super nice and respectful, but some are the definition of unnecessarily rude when it comes to attitude adjustments3) The school isn't to dirty but the students have no regards as to keeping the school clean whatsoever. Vandalized lavatories and the janitors do there very best to keep it clean but no matter what, it seems like you can never have even an at least slightly clean bathroom. Now I do hope that in the future, this school gets and upgrade or at least an change of rules and a lighter work load for the students and if it does get better, then maybe then ill change my rating.

Teachers seem to be decent. Work load for kids seems to be a lot though. Front office secretary needs some training on how to deal with parents and students. She on more than one occasion has been very rude and snippy for no apparent reason. Not helpful to families or the students who are new to the area. I’m not impressed with the school. I do not recommend this school.

I’ve been so pleased with the progress my son has made at this school. He loves the school and has attended the after school program for the last two years. He’s been an A Honor Roll student the entire time at Columbia middle school too.

Honestly, I do not like this school. My daughter went to Columbia Middle School for her 6th grade year and she will certainly not be going back. The students behavior there is awful and rude. Also, her homeroom teacher plays favorites. She will be nice and kind to the accelerated students but to my daughter she was rude. I don't recommend this school.

This is my daughter's second year at Columbia middle, the school and especially administration staff are the best. I was so sad to learn Mr. Cummings will not be at Columbia next year. He will be a wonderful asset to lakeside, they are gaining an awesome principal! I think Columbia will still be great school, they have awesome teachers who help every child to work to their fullest potential!
