Kids are behind academically compared to other public schools in Greensboro. Teachers are unprofessional, a new teacher told me that a lot of the kids are behind this year because they weren’t learning what they should have in the grade prior! Your kids get hit or does something and the teachers never see anything! Teachers look at you and won’t speak! Everyone is confrontational!

Poor communication, students not released on timely manner, uncontrolled classrooms. It is more like the students run the school then the adults. Had to request that if Tylenol or other over counter pain meds given per doctors request, that the staff inform parents so child is not over dosed. Lack of volunteers on every occasion due to lack of confirmation on whether volunteers are still needed. Poor scheduling on all staff. Student needs are not taken into account when things are planned. No accountability for teachers.

The school has only been open three years. I've had two children there, one fifth grader with an iep coming from alamance and a kinder, now in second grade. At alamance, it was nearly impossible to get an iep, and his accommodations were ignored. At Simkins, it was completely different, and by the time my son entered middle school he had gone from failing to thriving. My daughter envoys her teachers and has done well. I like the fact that there isn't an excessive amount of homework. Kids need time outside of school for family and play to be the best they can be. However, it seems a lot of parents living in the area aren't very progressive and/or are simply very close-minded, preferring to complain rather than trying something different to how they were raised. If you really want to know about a school, get off your butt and arrange a vivid. The principal is wonderful, and learns every student's name! Her heart and soul are completely wrapped up in her students, so go check it out!

Classrooms are out of control, teachers are micro-managed by the principal - truly a miserable, poorly managed school!

The Principal focused completely on test scores, not on teaching. The Teachers complained, however, they went along despite the fact that they knew they were failing the children.
