Terrible and any other school would be better

Overall, this is a great school. Middle School is hard for students so adding additional counselors would be great.

We have had a good experience with my 6th grader. I am surprised by some of the negative reviews, although I see that the negative reviews are REALLY old, so apparently things have changed over time, so it is kind of sad that the school is not showing a higher parent rating, which is why I decided to write a review about how it fares currently. My son has not experienced any bullying and is happy at the school. I feel the homework is appropriate. He's really excited about going to Science Camp, and they have an advanced program called Odyssey of the Mind, which is a great after school program. There are quite a few opportunities to compete for various subjects like math, science, speech, etc. So, there are opportunities to go beyond the normal school day for those children that want to advance to a higher level of educational experiences. There is even a summer program that gives the kids a college experience at Sac State. So, the opportunities for your children to grow is definitely there, it just boils down to parents taking advantage of all the school has to offer both during the normal school day and beyond.

We’ve not had any problems in the three years we’ve been there. Education seems good, not over the top, but our daughter has done well. Not much communication from the administration on areas of concern however. There have been several “threats” in the last two years and the only thing administration says is “don’t believe what you read on social media”. Really wish they would address the issue. Obviously they can’t go into details for privacy, but it would be who if them to do this and make parents more comfortable. Especially since there have been so many horrible situations in schools around the country the last few years .

Magnolia has been great for my 6th grade son. He is new to the district, a good student and doesn't have social problems. So for us, it's been fantastic. I can't comment on how a special needs family would be treated, but I have to assume that these quality teachers and administrators would do a wonderful job in that scenario, too. I've read several reviews from 2010-2012 that comment on excessive bullying. The principal and VP are new this past year and I haven't heard anything about bullying. So, it seems that this administration has improved or eliminated the problem. My overall feeling is so positive. My child is very, very happy at Magnolia.

My best advice to parents (at any school) is to make every attempt to be active and visible at your child's school. Whether selling tickets at lunch time, helping with Teacher Appreciation week, assisting with a fund raiser or volunteering for an event, a little goes a long way. Even if you work, there are evening opportunities to attend Parent Club, Site Council, and Board meetings. Much can be learned about what's going on by attending these public meetings. The more the administrators and staff know who you are and how much you care, the better experience you and your children are likely to have. We're lucky to have wonderful, caring administrators, and by working together we can all make a difference for our kids.

I have to say, I was really nervous about my 6th grader starting this year after the reputation of bullying in this school. But, since the new principal has taken over, my son has had a great experience, and no bullying whatsoever at this school. He says he does not even see it. He has a lot of friends, great kids. The teachers at this school are hit or miss. Some have mood swings, come off as grumpy most of the time, and are not for the more sensitive child. Some are great,. such as Mr. Nat. But I do believe this is a much better school now than it ever was before, and there is a large effort being made against bullying. Unfortunately, many of the parents who come from Cottage Hill (LOP) bully other parents and gossip way too much, so their children see it and become bullies and they are very clicky as well. However, the effort made is definitely making a difference, as much as it can for the climate we are in. And the Alta Sierra kids that attend this school, have been a great group of kids, and are very open to other kids joining with them. This has been a great experience so far this year. The bus, well, that still needs some work. But at school, it has been wonderful.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. A 1 star rating? Magnolia is far from deserving such a poor rating. While no school is perfect, you only need to visit a few other school districts to realize how good we have it at Magnolia. Magnolia has awesome students, parents, teachers, and administration. Magnolia has a wide variety of programs for students, including sports, music, and academic programs. The technology resources are outstanding. (The technology lab is "ok"?) All are dealing with difficult times as positively as they are able. It is time to stop the bashing just because you have personal grievances.

most of the reviews are very bad and i disagree with alot of them because the bullying isnt a big problem there were only like 2 fights this year and they wernt that bad and yes its very cliquish ( srry bad spelling) but thats just school and the teacher was very good i thought and people are out of control but we are teenagers and its normal and the leadership was exalent mark was a greet principle and im going to miss him

My son and daughter both attended: daughter 8 yrs ago and son for last 3 years. This used to be a 'good' school, not excellent but good never the less. Now this school is completely out of control. I also can say the same for Bear River High. Female gym teacher @ BRH is completely out of control . Both are extremely clique-ish and to add to the problem almost encouraged by staff. Do your child a favor and find a different education system/school. We have transferred to private schooling.

There is something seriously wrong with this school! The bullying is out of control. The lack of discipline and supervision is ridiculous. These kids are acting like a bunch of savages, causing nothing but trouble. Hopefully with the new principal things will get better, because Lord knows, they have had terrible leadership for far too long.

this is the crappiest school, I know because I go here. It is filled with a lot of potheads and juveniels. I have been messed with ever since I have been here. Woodshop class is great and the computer lab is o.k.
