This school is amazing!! Stellar teachers that truly care and a community that backs them! Immense amount of parent involvement on top of small class sizes makes sure no kid is left behind and they’re getting an excellent education. We moved her last summer coming from a private school out of state. First, I look to the local private school, but wasn’t impressed. I then started hearing so many rave reviews about Cottage Hill I had my three kids district transferred here and am so glad I did! This school has a very kind, safe, welcoming atmosphere and my kids love it!! I hear so many great reviews but for some reason no one post reviews in this small community, so I think it’s time I give a positive shout out :) Thank you to all the staff and volunteers, we appreciate you!!

Hi, I'm just a student here but the experience has been positive, although someone got into a fight and all the principle said way that she has no time for 'girl drama'. The students and teachers are nice, but the principle needs to change.

This school has a bullying problem and the school is not equipped to deal with it. There’s a lot of nepotism where the teachers and parents are friends or grew up together, and the children of those adults get preferential treatment. If you bring concerns to teachers, they deny, deflect and get defensive. The social-emotional well being of children is not valued. I wouldn’t recommend this school.

This is my daughters first year at Cottage Hill. We have experienced a welcoming attitude from the staff, teachers, parents and kids. My daughter loves it here. Thank you for offering a safe, sound academic environment for the kids.

I would rather avoid writing negative comments about public institutions like schools, yet I cannot keep quiet about this particular institution. It would appear that the spirit of Cottage Hill School is the “enforcement of the school rules” rather than the education and formation of the young minds. A five year old will be punished for a minor infraction without any effort on part of the teacher or, specially, the principal, to make her/him understand the impact of his/her actions. The teacher, with full support from the principal, brands the child and stereotypes him/her according to the teacher’s miopíc view. There is very little effort to LISTEN to the child or to the parent. I have heard parents comment that their child “doesn’t want to go to school,” “is afraid of going to school,” “hates the teacher.” This is not the environment in which any child should spend a large part of her/his day. If you have a choice, do your child and yourself a favor and avoid Cottage Hill School.

We are so happy to finally be done with this school. The principal offers poor leadership and almost Fosters a gossipy environment among the adults working and volunteering at the school. My children were so unhappy here and hated going. After 2 years of attending we finally switched and they are all thriving academically and socially at their new school. Cottage Hill lacks an appreciation for individuality so if you think your child might break out of the cookie mold this place may not be a good fit for him or her. The one anomaly to the school is Mrs. Mertens, the preschool teacher. She is incredible with children and offers amazing techniques to help them pick up on Concepts. Not to mention the children absolutely love her. This school is very lucky to have her.

Worst school experience I have ever had for my child. They offer no help to anyone with disabilities and would like to ship you off to the next school. Principle has poor leadership skills and only cares about testing scores. Please if you have a child that is not A typical find another school. So heartbroken...

I love this school! I have 3 boys there ages 5, 8 and 9 years old. They also love the school. The principal, teachers, staff, parents, and kids are great! We moved here last year from the Bay Area, where my kids were in a supposedely 'top rated' school. We are WAY happier at this school than the previous school. I feel the teachers and staff really get to know the kids here personally. Many teachers have been there for many years and seem genuinely happy to be there. The kids get way more positive attention than they did at the 'top rated' school they came from. They were stressed out and hated their previous school. All the previous school cared about was their rating and API scores, not the kids themselves. And, the previous school had a ridiculous amount of homework each night. I feel this school has the appropriate amount of homework per night, not too much that it is overwhelming and kids burn out, but enough to keep them on a good learning curve. Now my boys are excited about going to school and are all doing extremely well and excelling academically. Every day that I pick them up from school and I ask about their day, the standard answer was that they had a great day. The school also has great after school programs (Coding, Lego Robotics, Cooking, Art, Science, etc.) and an Advanced Studies Program. So, there are many ways for kids to excel at this school beyond just the normal school day.

I like how the teachers don't give up on you and how easy people can make friends

Not long ago, I posted a great review for this school. We have been there for years. However, this year, the climate seems much different. I really loved the last principal, Mrs. Veneman. She had it together. If I had any concerns, she would make me feel like my concerns mattered, and she agreed, would take action, and still be a great advocate for the school and kids. She had a great balance. This year, there is much more bullying, a more negative vibe at the school, a very "whatever" type response to any concern from a parent, by the principal. And it seems the communication and support for parents being involved has not been supported in the same way. I find that sad. This school was wonderful, and the teachers still, to this day, most of them are great. We have had great experiences. But the environment feels different this year, and a lot of behavior of the kids is falling through the cracks. I think that if it is allowed to continue on this path, we are going to have even more issues in the next years to come with this school.

We moved here from a so called top rated school district in Pleasanton Ca. The individualized care we have experienced is night and day compared to our previous school. My son was diagnosed with autism has a incredible IEP team at Cottage Hill. The IEP team consists of 9 administrators, and educators who all know him inside and out compared and want whats best for HIM. Our last districts IEP team consisted of one administrator and one teacher who keep calling him the wrong name and recommended medication.
