My child is in kindergarten this year. Four months into the school year, I have two major complaints. The first is the teacher. There are three kindergarten teachers. We seem to have been assigned the one who dislikes their job. My child absolutely dreads going into school every day because they are intimidated by the "mean" teacher. I am saddened and angry this is my child's first experience as a student. My second is the time school begins: 7:20 AM. Trying to get a five year old up and ready by 7:00 AM is an impossible task. I have to put them to bed by 6:30 PM - but they are still exhausted in the morning. I don't understand why school needs to start so early - they could easily operate from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM or 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, which would give everyone more time in the morning. Overall, I'm disappointed by this school and hoping next year will be better.

We have been very happy with our decision to have our 1st and 4th graders come to this school despite the low ratings. There is bullying for my 4th grader which started last year in his 9 rating California school. I teach my kids that bullying isn’t nice but kids sometimes aren’t nice. Kids do what is taught at home. School is what kids and parents make of it and we are very happy with the teachers and staff at Madrona

This school has good teachers that are willing to help students. But as far as discipline goes... there is none. My daughter was harrassed by a kid, things that kids this age should not know anything about, over and over and nothing was done. I like this school but they need to input something for discipline and should not double in size whatsoever.

The teachers at Madrona are caring and loving and foster a positive learning environment. Students are encouraged to actively participate in art, PE and science. Last year the students put on an art night. It was a wonderful experience listening to my child explain their creations and the meanings behind them. Students put on a holiday show every year which includes the use of sign language and musical instruments. The principle was so proud of the show that she was actually brought to tears of joy. My family has enjoyed the vegetable garden very much! I love Madrona.

Absolutely horrible school. My daughter went there until I had to pull her out due to constant bullying. The teachers refused to discipline students. The district officials were no better. Ended up pulling my daughter and placing her in private school. I went to public school and my other child went to public school. You can't imagine the neglect at this school. Horrible!

Typical lousy public school. The kids don't learn much and can't even play dodge ball or tag. A detention center would be more pleasant. They plan on doubling the size even though they have no room. Good luck !
