This school gets a bad rap sometimes. There are some families in Granite Falls attendance zone that are not raising their children in a responsible way. They think it is the schools job to teach their kids how to get along with others and to make sure their kids are learning. They don't realize that they themselves are setting the example of disrespect for others and mistrust of others (including school administrators and personnel) which sets up their children for conflicts at school. The schools spends time focusing on respecting others and actively teaches growth mindset principles. They encourage the children to become good citizens.

For sucha small district the people involved truly care about their students. They are open to help and suggestion from community members

The lack of communication in this school is appalling. My son has ADHD and a learning disability. We came from a school that provided him with a lot of support and took excellent care of him. When he came to Monte Cristo, I told staff as much as I could about him. Nothing was communicated. His teacher had no idea that he was on medication or that he had an IEP at his old school. Furthermore, after several people in our family passed within a short period of time (2 of whom were very important to my son) I contacted the school and requested a counselor speak to him. I never heard back. After a major incident with a neighbor child, I again requested a counselor speak to him, but this time I insisted. The counselor called me and write literally told me that she didn't have time for it. Isn't that your job?!?! To speak with children who are having problems with life?!?! This is a terrible school, and if you value your children, don't send then to it!!

It saddens me to see negative reviews from others that don't point a school and/or any specific problems but are generally unhappy with a district based on other personal criteria gathered from non first hand experience. This school is very good, all the kids I do see excel. Teacher involvement and activities show that they care about the kids growth and well being. I have no problem with having my 2 boys attend this school at all. next year my kids will be in 1st and 3rd grade. The high school is new and we had the teacher of the year from our district.
