I used to go to this school and now almost in high school. Its a great school from what I saw and when I went. The principle there during the time was amazing I don't remember her name but all I know is she was my favorite principle even when I'm in high school. I left in 2016 or 2017 and didn't get to say goodbyes to anyone there but from my experience the school was the best and I will one day go back.

The teachers who are there now are very caring and look out for the kids. My son has learned a lot this year.

They are completely horrible the staff in its entirety. I have three kids in this school, two of which need the nurse's help during the during to administer asthma medicine which was never given to my child despite having two doctors note. My second child is needing extra snacks during school which i provide and have again three doctor's note and was very inconsistently given and i had to get the social worker involved from the university of Michigan hospital. Also my son is on the smaller side and has been horribly bullied by the boys and girls and even the teacher at times. The principal seems to be incredibly unconcerned and chooses not to do anything about it, even when another little boy touched my son's private parts. My whole family has been in the school setting during their careers and never i they nor i ever been to a more horrible school and i am in the process of getting my kids out of the school. They need to shut down and completely replace all the staff. I am considering reattaning my three kids in the same grade once we get the heck out of this school as they are completely behind in comparison to the school they attended last year.

As a former student, now high school graduatethere are a few things that come to mindbut first please don't take my words are spiteful The nursing staff from my memories are a bit high strong and against my parents wishes continued dosing me with medication despite the adverse reactions I had and the fact they refused to release the medication to my parents the majority of the gen. staff we're not very compassionate in fact at times with several staff members tore me down mentally A few of the social workers on the other hand seem to be very skilled The food is what you would expect During my enrollment the school was run in such a manner that made you depressed just to be there and the education I received their was more or less useless in for the years of school The occupational and physical therapy staff seem knowledgeable in their respective fields and taking some time out of class every week or two weeks was a good break for me personally The transportation back home after the day was done was always a bit of a hassle They lined us up In the hallway and sectioned us off bus All in all I find the experience I had At ken-o-sha something I'd never want to relive

This school is probably one of the better ones in Grand Rapids for one reason alone: the principal Mr. Polaski. He is very concerned about whether these kids learn, not only in the classroom but also in life. He is strict and not afraid to dish out discipline for kids who cannot get their act together. He will even visit the homes of parents whose children do not behave. He understands that these children get no discipline at home but does not use that as an excuse to just sit by passively and let the kids run the school. True there are educational problems, but again what can a teacher do if students are not encouraged to succeed at home and the parents do not care what their children do? Yes, Ken-o-Sha has issues, but not nearly as many as most schools in the Grand Rapids Public School district and it all starts with the leadership Mr. Polaski impements. Great principal who is trying to turn around a rather shady school.
