Although students are predominantly Hispanic, at about 90% of the population, students are subjected to racism by some teachers. The school lacks the resources and qualified faculty to offer students a superior education. The academic statistics back up this theory. The principal does not seem to be the right fit as he lacks the training needed to deal with young children and he seems to be a bit clueless as he doesnt know some of the basic things going on in the school. For such a small town of just over 8,000 residents, 30% of which are under 18yo, the school seems to be overcrowded at almost 500 students, ranging from 6-8th grade. Some of the faculty members demeanor is very unwelcoming to the students as some treat kids as if they were a nuisance instead of OUR FUTURE. Sadly this is the only middle school in town and most parents cannot travel the 50mile+ round trip to Salinas every day to search for a better alternative.

I am currently a student at this school, and have been for about 4 years. I am also currently the student body president, so I know that Fairview has a lot to offer. We might not have much school pride, but we get a lot of educational opportunities at Fairview. I am a 4.0 or higher student, and I am being taught science and math that we learn at the Gonzales High School. The teachers, as well as the staff, are friendly and encourage students to learn and do the work needed. It's also a very safe school, especially since there is very little to none violence in Gonzales. It's a very friendly and safe neighborhood, and that is speaking of experience, since I have lived here In Gonzales for about 8 years. I recommend considering this school when considering moving places or schools.

I would agree with the previous comment about the Superintendent Modena bis a mean person to the people she does not like. The district is a giant cluster of a mess. My husband wants to remove our three children out of Fairview and send them another district. I love the teachers there and the principal. We dislike the district leader Modena and are going contact the school board to voice our feelings. I sure hope they hear us and listen!!!!

The only reason I gave it one star is because of the current Superintendent Mrs. M_d_na has ruined the entire district with bad hires and her lying to parents of Gonzales. She mistreats Mr. V by belittling him in front of the teachers which I seen when I pick up my sons. Parents write the school board & demand her removal for the sake of our children. She runs the board with no parameters and look at the result.

We are new the Gonzales Unified although we have deep family roots here! I really love the Fairview Principal Mr. V and the staff. Superintendant Modena just should move on and leave Mr. V by not harrassing him. School board needs to release that poor excuse of an administrator because she is ruining the district.
