Inconstancy with the school leadership who seem more keen on making people happy then doing the right thing in the name of equality and equity because of parents who are on the school board or make donations to the school.I've never seen a school where my child learns reading through POWERPOINT SLIDES? My child is kept busy with with endless packets and their teachers constantly play movies every Friday. I came in to try to art enrichment and I saw my child's teachers on her phone shopping! Would NOT recommend for anyone looking for a school for their child especially in the Northbrook community.Poor leadership and unmotivated teachers.

What a breath of fresh air in the North Shore!A high achieving school and students experience incredible diversity. A 2-building, K-8 District, (Winkelman K-5) and Field (6-8) they make friends for life. The community is close knit - the size of the district allows students to have every opportunity that other township school provide, but the real benefit of D31 is that due to its size and a 2-building district, there is personal attention and focus on each child. With 75-100 students per grade level, teachers make tremendous connections with children and really look out for your child from one year to the next. It's a regular occurence to find last year's teacher, working with this year's teacher, on how to best benefit your child.Whether your child is high-achieving or has some learning challenges - D31 meets students at ALL levels with resources that individualize for unique needs.Unlike other districts where students may change schools 3 times before high school, at D31, all students are in 1 building for K-5 and switch to Field for 6-8. D31 feeds into Glenbrook High Schools - some of the top rated in the nation. The teachers are amazing. The District has tremendous resources and focuses on children. Class sizes are SMALL and the Board works to preserve that. All K-1 classrooms have a teacher AND a full-time teacher assistant (with class sizes always under 18). Most classes in the elementary building are around 20 children.

The district 31 is for sure one of the best of the regions and the Winkelman has a team of professionals that really care about the student. All the communications are clear and the feedback about the students is precise. If you want to have your son in an exclusive district, I really recommend to live in this neighborhood.

My child has had an awesome experience at Winkelman. The specials and extra curriculars provide a variety of learning opportunities, and students are strongly supported and encouraged in their academics. The teachers have been great to work with, and are masters in their craft.

Amazing place. I cannot believe all the attention my son gets, who has some learning set backs. The team is terrific, and we're grateful!

This school consistently ranks amount the highest test scores in the country. They are excellent at teaching Math and English skills to grade school age children. They are also excellent at encouraging strength of character in their students. My daughter is in second grade, an age where children can be vicious. I asked her, "Who is the funny kid in your class?" She told me the boy's name. I asked her "Who is the prettiest girl?" She told me her name. "Who is your best friend?" She told me. Then I asked her, "Who is the mean child in your class?" She said there aren't ANY. An entire class, and she does not have a single mean child in the bunch. My daughter enjoys school very much because of the nurturing atmosphere. She wants to be a teacher someday because she looks up to the ones in the school. It is an excellent institution. I wish them every success.

We just moved here last year and my child has Mrs. Shoemaker as the 2nd grade teacher. Mrs. Shoemaker, along with the rest of the staff, is very dedicated and committed to their students. The school encourages a lot of parental involvement and I am astounded how much dedication they have for these young students. I am very happy with the school and soo glad we made the decision to move here. And as opposed to one reviewer who said there are bullies on the bus, my child has not experienced any problems so far. The bus driver is very nice and attentive. I heard Field School recently got a national academic award, and Glenbrook South is academically known too. No wonder people always say Glenview has the best schools!

Winkelman is a fantastic school. The teachers are very passionate about their students and ensuring the grow and learn throughout the year. In particular, Ms. Weisberg in 1st grade goes above and beyond to make sure her students learn to read. The PE teacher Mr. LeBlanc teaches students not only to live healthy lifestyles through exercise, but inspires students to higher levels of character. Mrs. Reyes is amazing at second grade, not only teaching students academics, but making sure they make social progress. There are many more teachers that guide their students to meet the highest expectations. Even the office staff is amazing, with the friendly faces of Ms. Sowinski and Mrs. Braun. This is all capped off by the leadership of Maria Kalant, who has put this amazing team of educators together.
