Review for Williamsburg elementary in geneva.I appreciate the effort Williamsburg Elementary school puts into creating an inclusive environment, but recent restroom policy changes have left some students feeling uncomfortable and unheard. A biologically male student who identifies as female is now using the girls’ restroom, and several young girls have come home upset, feeling their privacy is being overlooked. One student even confided in a trusted adult about her discomfort, only to be told she should leave the restroom if she felt unsafe. This response is deeply concerning, as all students deserve to feel secure and respected—not just some.A simple, fair solution would be a unisex, single-stall restroom option. This would allow all students to have a space where they feel comfortable while maintaining privacy for everyone. I urge the school to find a balanced approach that respects the needs of all students and keeps parents informed.

want to express my appreciation for the staff and teachers at Williamsburg elementary who work hard to create a positive learning environment. However, I feel compelled to address a recent change that has left some students feeling uncomfortable and unsafe. This year, the school has allowed a biologically male student who identifies as female to use the girls’ restroom. While I fully support creating an inclusive environment for all students, this decision has left several young girls feeling anxious, uncomfortable, and even brought to tears. At this age, with puberty approaching and emotions running high, privacy in restrooms is especially important.Previously, a reasonable compromise was in place where this student was using the staff restroom. However, this year, the school made a change without notifying parents, leaving children to come home distressed and unsure how to handle the situation. One particularly troubling incident involved a 10-year-old girl who expressed her discomfort to a trusted adult at school, only to be told that if she felt uncomfortable, she should leave the restroom. This response sends the message that only one student’s needs are being prioritized while others are left without a safe or reasonable solution. Every child deserves to feel secure and respected in their school environment.I strongly believe that a fair and inclusive solution would be providing a unisex, single-stall restroom option to accommodate students who feel more comfortable with that arrangement. This would allow for privacy, dignity, and respect for all students—not just some.I urge the school administration to consider solutions that prioritize the well-being of all students. Parents should also be kept informed of policies that impact their children’s comfort and safety. Open communication and thoughtful solutions can ensure that every child feels safe, respected, and supported.

It's good and bad, but maybe that's all public schools these days.

For those who don't know, Williamsburg Elementary is a brand-new K-5 school that took the place of Coultrap Elementary. Williamsburg Elem was completed in 2008. The new building is wonderful! Bright, clean, and modern, along with lots of TLC for happy kids and staff. Great teachers, great kids and involved families. Very strong academic, art and music and PE programs, computers/technology, fantastic accelerated program, also wonderful special needs programming. Principal Dr. Julie Dye - only female PhD Elementary School Principal in the District and we are happy to have her! Strong, welcoming and fun PTO, facilitating great events throughout the year such as field trips, author visits, family programming, after-school enrichment (kids' clubs), and so much more! I would highly recommend Williamsburg Elem. to anyone looking for a great school!
