My kids have had a great experience at Dodd Middle School. They have an excellent program for kids that excel academically. In honors Math, 7th graders take algebra and the 9th grade algebra Regents and in 8th grade take geometry and the 10th grade geometry Regents. If you see low math Common Core scores, it's because all the honors kids take the Regents exam and not the Common Core exam. So, their scores are not reflected. In 8th grade honors science, they learn earth science and take the 10th grade earth science Regents. The english and social studies classes are also excellent. I love that in 8th grade social studies kids are learning about finances and the stock market. It's a great place for smart kids! They are challenged and prepared for their future academic career. The band program is also excellent. They have concert band, jazz band and wind ensemble. I highly recommend this school.

I'm proud to say the Teachers and staff do their best to keep a safe environment for our children.I agree that the outside appearance does not look to inviting. But once you walk through the doors you will have a much different perception. There are plenty of activities, both during and after school for students to participate in.

Dodd Middle School is a great place for children during a crazy time in their lives. Middle school is not easy for most kids. Their bodies and hormones are changing. Dodd has many fantastic programs available. Between Yes!, sports, many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities make it a wonderful place. The facade of the building can't be helped, but when you enter there is student work everywhere and it is a lively place.

School looks like a dump, has been likened to a prison. Some teachers are nice but most aren't. Visitors are unwelcome, especially those from Freeport High School. I know some from the high school hang around there causing after school chaos, but some of the good people want to see their former teachers and get turned away by security. You can somehow (on Back to School night if you have a sibling attending at the current time) try to see your teachers, only to find out most of them have left 2-3 years later. Many teachers don't want to stay there. Parents will pay anything not to send their kids there.
