Currently, I am going through the 7th grade and to be honest it matters what teachers you get. Sometimes you get teachers who barely interact with students and only show some notes to copy down (Dr. Milliam) while others will try to look through the perspective of students and ask for feedback on how they are teaching. There is a good share of good and bad teachers at the school but overall there are teachers that are doing their job how they should. The only problem that I feel affects certain students and their mental health is that the counselors will not listen to what students have to say sometimes and won't work on making sure that students are not being harassed. Same thing with some teachers, they won't do anything about it unless brought up.On the other hand, there is a great band and orchestra program for those who want to try it out for 6th graders or if you are moving schools and want to continue with your instrument. In terms of sexism or racism, there is practically none. Though in PE there is sexism from the coaches (not sure if it is something from the district) during pacer tests girls only have to do 40 while boys have to do 61. When there is basketball there are a bunch of rules to "try to get everyone involved" which say that you need to pass to a girl and back before shooting plus girls' points are double. In terms of punishments, there is a strike system where if you get 3 strikes you get detention and 4 strikes is ISS (in-school suspension) Just be safe and try to get along with people.

The blatant discrimination is there and the school is rife with homophobia, racism, and sexism. The teachers are not that supportive of there srudents learning needs

My son is in his second year as a 7th Grader and is learning at a very high level. The communication from teachers and staff about what is happening around school, and my child's grades is frequent and helpful. Having two working parents is sometimes hard to keep up with school work, and the extra attention given to students when they need it, is appreciated. It helps us, help him. We have two daughters that will be going to this school over the next 7 years and we are excited for what they are going to experience as the school continues to excel.

Big, clean facility. A lot of open racism and homophobia. Teachers don’t do much about harassment, and often let favorites (athletes) pass by without many consequences. Many good teachers. Okay-ish 504 plans.This school is okay if you’re a standard white kid with money.

This is the 5th consecutive year we have had children attending GMS. Though there has been a lot of change in leadership during that time (3 principals), we have been pleased with both the administration and teachers. The gifted instructor, Mrs. Williams, is particularly wonderful! Though we've had different challenges with each child, we have felt this to be a supportive and cooperative educational environment for our kids. I wish class sizes were smaller, but that is a WCS issue not a GMS one. Great kids and families who care about the educational experience, make GMS a great school.

As a previous student, I would view this school as prison. Kids do not get to sit where they want at lunch and are punished with "silent lunch" when talking too much or trying to communicate with friends. There is a minimal amount of teachers who actually WANT to help you. They just want you to do well on the TCAP tests but other than that there is nothing. There is no creativity in the classroom and no socializing among students besides in the hallway between classes (which is your only time you are allowed to go to the bathroom). Middle school is a bad experience for everyone, but Grassland makes it exceptionally miserable.

I had two children attend Grassland Middle school in Williamson County (2006 - 2014). Our experience was very disappointing. My children were not challenged academically. I even called the principle to discuss ways my children could be challenged and received a call that the assistant principle would be in touch. I am still waiting for the call. My children never had home work and made great grades without studying. The only positive I can take away from our experience is Grassland is zoned for Franklin high School. My child is now is AP and honors and is being challenged . I would not recommend Grassland Middle for parents moving to Williamson County. Poor teachers and the Administration does not have your child best interest and avoids talking to parents.

Grassland Middle overall is a phenomenal school. I was in 6th grade last year and I had terrific teachers. I've heard from the kids in 7th and 8th say the teachers aren't great. The schools dress code is a little ridiculous. One of the only problems at the school is that there's no recess which kids need at my age.P.E is good but you don't have it all year and some kids don't even have at anytime I'm the year! There are tons of sports and other activities for the kids.The bus routes need to be changed there so overcrowded! Overall grassland is a great school! GO GENERALS!!!

This is a phenomenal school, with an excellent academic and athletic program. Coming from a highly rated private school in our former town, I would rank GMS as equivalent or better in many regards. The teachers care, and the parents are highly involved.

My son just finished 8th grade after three great years at Grassland Middle School. With only one exception, the teachers were wonderful. My only complaint is the lack of recess where kids can be kids, blow off steam and expend some pent up energy.

My son views GMS as a prison because: teachers won't let them use the restrooms except during class switches. However if they are late to class they will get "strikes" which can add up to a detention. So nobody uses the restrooms all day. They can't sit where they want during lunch and have no recess. Thus, they have no way to socially mingle with their friends. They get no physical education if they participate in band, and if they are not in band, they only get 1/4 of the school year with physical ed if lucky. They actually count the time it takes to switch classes and claim that this meets their state physical education requirement. 12-13 year old boys could use some exercise to break up the day but they don't get it. Some teachers are nice, but many are callous and try to break these kids spirits. As a parent, I would add: There is very little critical thinking and hardly any writing that is truly evaluated. It is all rote learning for the tcap and uninspiring. My husband and I each have advanced degrees and place a priority on education, but this brute force method is not the way to instill a love of learning, quite the contrary.

I LOVE grassland so much. its an amazing school. i was on the orange team last year and each teacher was my favorite one! the staff and so nice and works really hard! i would definitley recommend grassland to any person!
