This school is amazing. All of these other reviews are old. Ms Barton is a great principal and the whole staff is warm and caring. My son is constantly challenged and encouraged in class. ESS has been a great program for us as well. The “HIVE” meetings and community is a great form of inclusivity. They plan a bunch of family fun nights that are very organized, fun and free. I do wish they utilized a different school app though. ClassDojo does not give a way for parents to connect to each other while these young kids need outside socialization for proper development. Other than that there I am so excited to be a part of the Hearn family for a while.

Extremely high turnover of teachers and administrators. In 5 years my child went through 4 principals. From 1st to 4th grade there was only one really bad teacher and 2 teachers that were superb. I guess that should make me happy, but very little is done to push those that are high achievers. GT program is laughable unfortunately as well. Granted the funding for this program has been cut tremendously. However, now it only good for a couple of field trips. Split 4th/5th grade was poorly implemented due to teacher shortage. Kids 'fell through the cracks" and the 4th graders really were short changed. They elected to have an assistant principal instead of filing a teacher position. To my knowledge this is the only elementary school in the district with this position. Support staff are caring and hard workers (counselor/nurse/family resource/etc.) Scores for the school are low and they seem to mainly try to focus on just teaching how to take the standardized tests. Ironically, I think if they would teach the subject matter the test scores would reflect accordingly. That sounds contradictory, but the focus is on how to take the test and not the knowledge behind it. The best thing they did was to let students have access to Kahn Academy. My child only improved significantly between testing times when using this resource. When not used the scores maintained with no great increase.

This is not a great school, while there are teachers that go above and beyond there are also those that will not help at all.
