What a gem! When you enter this elementary school you can feel the love. The front office knows who you are and the teachers and staff are there to help. The special education team goes above and beyond to help me as a parent understand the process and have my child’s need met.

Great school my daughter had attended the last 2yrs. Extremely helpful staff, very good caring teachers, and small classrooms for best learning environment. She was behind in reading from Gold Canyon district, and McDowell got her caught up via Title. We are a small town, with small town values....similar to one big family that all stick together in the best interest of the children. Andrea

I see so many glowing reviews of this school, but that has not been my experience. There are a few gems in the school: a select few teachers (whom we have not been lucky enough to get), the support staff, and the office staff. The special education program is also excellent, from what I can see. We have, however, had many struggles here despite attempts to make things better. For two years, I feel my child was written off as a bad kid and treated very poorly. There were times that he definitely deserved punishment, and I stood by the teacher's decisions.. but there were times when the punishments were just downright ludicrous because the teacher was just done dealing with him. Many things were not communicated to me in a timely manner. I was an involved parent and put a lot of support towards this school but we never really felt a part of it. We found an alternative for our son that has been a godsend and he is thriving. So while this school may be for some, it is definitely not for everyone.

McDowell Mountain Elementary is a fantastic school. The hallways are inviting with the children's work and we welcome visitors, families, and volunteers. Everyone that works there has a desire and drive to put children first. We want to encourage each student to have self-confidence, independence, and to strive for success. Building a community, in the classroom, with the families, and the town is very important to our mission. Please stop by and check out a beautiful Pre-K through 3rd grade school that is excited to see you!

This school will hold some cherished memories for me and my two kids....the musical productions, the field trips, plays and just plain, good fun in class parties and recess. Oh yeah, and the curriculum rocks as well! My son was in the challenge class and I can not say enough good things about Mrs. Ness and the gifted program. The principal is the most engaging, involved and fair person I have encountered. She will always view an issue from every angle. Mrs. Meehan is very thorough and a delight to the kids. It amazes me that she knows all their names! If you are a concerned parent, get involved in the Parent Teacher Org (PTO) They help this school thrive!

Great school, excellent and engaged teachers. Principal is liked by the kids and does an excellent job setting high goals and makes sure teachers and kids reach these higher standards. My son is in 1st grade and this is the second year here. I am glad we chose this school. Some of the Charter school kids joined my son's classroom lately and they had trouble reading and writing and were way behind until our wonderful and hard working teachers helped them catch up.
