This school is great and it made my child improve a lot!

My son attended in 2017-2020 and I am still connected through friends whose children attend. I am so grateful to Principal Dr. Kellye Kirkpatrick for her dedication to the school, and thankful that she has remained in this position long enough to provide consistency & stability. To be honest, a middle school in an urban area with 80% of the kids identified as economically disadvantaged is going to have challenges. A lot of problems walk in the door that the teachers and administration have no control over. This is life, and I know that my kid (who does not come from an economically disadvantaged home) will be navigating this as part of his education. I have seen kids at Monnig excel at math, reading, sports, music (band, orchestra, choir & piano), dance, and theater. I've known many who moved on to AHHS with advanced credits, prepared to succeed in high school and beyond. There are many ways kids thrive here. Not all do. There are many teachers who relate well to the kids, hold them accountable, and help them succeed. Not all do. It's uneven. However, Monnig has strong parental involvement & committed and consistent administrative leadership. I believe it can get better, and I know this is a school where parents with initiative & ideas will be supported in their efforts to improve the school.

I have never in my life seen such a terrible school, absolutely no communication from teachers to parents, my son has always been an A student until we moved here from out if state. Since we have been here my son has gotten into trouble because teachers here do not care so kids get away with everything, no discipline, my son reports to me that daily their are fights. The Vice principal is a joke, and should not be in administration, she thinks by making threatening statements to my son that will accomplish something. The school board really needs to review who is in charge at this school

This school needs to be reported because some of the teachers here do not watch the children and my child got hurt on his first day their and this is being reported as I am writing this report. No I would not rate this, if it has to be rated I would highly recommend that all parents, ask a lot of questions and check all reviews on this school. Especially if you have a special needs child. So in order for me to write this review they are saying it has to get a review 1thru 5 mines is a 0 That's how I rate them because my child was in the class room with the teachers and they could not tell me how it happened to him , with not one teacher but with 2 teachers. It's very sad knowing your leaving your love one with someone that your thinking that is qualified to protect them or learn them things. But the sad true is that they are not . This is not pretaining to all teachers or teacher aide's. The moral of this review is too spread awareness. Please share, this review.

My son has a learning disability and the special Ed department is very responsive! “ Mary Louise Phillips Elementary” The teachers are awesome and you can tell they care! In this day of age leadership and encouragement is needed with our daily needs with young teens and children. My son has been to 2 different schools and by far this is his favorite. For being a public school in the DFW I feel pretty satisfied.

This school is Awesome!! The teachers care about their students and they all work well together - Great Leadership in the Principal - Hands On! Your student is kept active in different programs and encouraged to try new things. They have an active after-school program that offers homework assistance, computer, cooking and art classes.

The teachers at this school truly care about each student. The principal is engaged at every level of the school and is very accessible. The seven core values of the school (respect, responsibility, academic achievement, community, consistency and fairness) are instilled in every student and high expectations are the norm. Tutoring is available for students struggling in a particular subject and it has a very active PTA. Small school where they know your child by name.

This is a great school with great teachers. The kids are well-behaved for the most part.
