My experience here at ALA was great! The teachers were amazing and cared about forming relationships with their students. ALA truly helped me in preparing myself for high school and much more. Also, despite not having any sports ALA did their absolute best to keep students involved/active. If I could turn back time to go back and attend ALA… I definitely would!

I am a former band director of ALA 2004-2013. The first 2 principals were fantastic. They also taught a class each and that was a true morale booster. The second 2 principals, one was decent , the asst was worthless. It was a school with true learning in a liberal atmosphere. It had a great staff and was always graded academically recognized while I was there. I started the first orchestra, choir, jazz band, guitar & harp class. In 2013, the principals.....were in name only. The true spirit of ALA was gone. Downtown FWISD ADMIN is the reason. My grading below reflects the time I was there.... I dont know about now. I heard not.

This school is a great school who works with what they have. My child has thrived here over the years with their project-based learning approach! Overall, I’ve found the staff to be dedicated and open to teaching a different way to different learners! The Principal, Ms. Buckley, is kind and passionate about the success of ALA!The cons are that the school is old and the facilities are subpar! FWISD should be ashamed. I understand they they are moving locations in 2021/2022 school year, I hope things are better! No school is perfect, but this school’s environment is one of the better ones in FWISD.

The few wonderful teachers are amazing, but I will NOT be sending my younger children there.

I am an alumni from ALA, I am now a Senior in High School and i feel like it helped me so much in high school and now going off to college. I learned to work hard, hands-on work, & how to solve problems in different ways. The school was very good about handling trouble, and to the reviews that say you only have to be in the "in-crowd", you don't. Most of the people who were bullied i noticed tried to fit in, and when they didn't get their way, threw a fit and people tried to get away from them, because they felt uncomfortable. it's nice to fit in, but not nice to fit in where you are almost forcing yourself on others, that only makes people scared & mad at them. Besides that, there are people of all types & groups, you don't have to just be in the in-crowd to fit in because you will find people of all different kinds! If you have a child that wants a better future, I would suggest to send them here, it really was a great school & everyone really did bond for the most part, even the "nerds" & the "populars", I actually talk to some even now!
