This experience here was AWFUL. What kind of school TAKES AWAY THE 988 HELPLINE from a kid in crisis?! Absolutely DISGUSTING. Also a HUGE bullying problem at this school. I see bullying happen, and am a victim myself. I'm heavily bullied for.. about every little flaw about myself. This school also promotes homophobia in their banned books signs. It is awful. The amount of slurs I hear in one day is abysmal. What kind of school allowed kids to get off scot-free for bullying mentally ill kids, KNOWING they are mentally ill? Absolutely ABYSMAL.

Going to school here was a horrible experience. I was regularly made fun of by not only other students but also by a fair number of teachers in front of the other students. What kind of supposedly mature adult, much less an educator, would make fun of an insecure and maladjusted 12- 13 year old child? I was also constantly dodging fights with other students and never felt safe.

I cannot express how proud I am to send my child to this school. Unfortunately their are others in the district that I cannot say the same about due to experiences across the board we have dealt with. We are very happy we decided to switch schools this year and call OMS home for our children.

I absolutely recommend Ockerman Middle School! My daughter attended OMS and is now a Sophomore and my son is a 7th grade student at OMS. The teachers are beyond strong in their craft. Not only do they ensure all students work toward mastery of the content, but they also care about each child. Both of my children have had exceptional relationships with their teachers and administrators. They are not a test score. My children are part of a community.

Re: May 29, 2014 review - I also neglected to mention that they were making fun of a child with Asperger's Syndrome. I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult. In addition to the teachers contributing to the ostracizing of a student with a disability, they also weren't astute enough to recognize what should have been very obvious.

The staff all care so much about each child! I have had three children attend this school and all love it here!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say as a parent of a student at OMS. The principal is exceptionally professional and cares deeply about the kids. All of the teachers are very caring, and care about the success of their students. We will miss Ockerman next year as my son heads to high school.

I am a student just coming out of OMS, and heading to high school. The staff is AMAZING. We also have excellent extra-curricular activities, especially our speech and drama. The teachers are excellent except for 1 or 2. The reason I give a four is because some of the other kids can be mean, and more often than not they get away with it. However, when they do catch it, they punish them harshly, which I think is good, since they deserve it.
