Do not move into this district. The backwoods mentality of not wanting anyone new in the school runs strong here, and the kids AND adults will bully your kids until you leave. Not worth it. We didn’t listen to the warnings and thought it would be different for our kids. Adults bullying the kids is not an exaggeration. And, we contacted several adults about the issues and were met with “that’s how we do it at Norris.” Beyond the obvious political games, the education was subpar at best, and our kids are having to play catch up at their new school. We also have a friend whose son is wheelchair bound, and the school refuses to accommodate him. To me, that seems like a legal issue waiting to happen. They forgot to feed him at lunch, and when confronted about it, we’re defensive. I desperately urge anyone wanting to go here to look elsewhere. They hype themselves on sports a lot, but you would be better off at an actual winning program like Waverly or Seward.

The “good ole boys club” known as the school board needs a total overhaul, as do the superintendents and “higher ups” in the district. Bullying isn’t dealt with in a timely manner (if it’s dealt with at all), and sometimes the bullying comes from educators. The district is predominantly middle or upper class white traditional families, and there is almost nothing done to teach about other cultures and racism. LGBTQ+ and accurate sexual health education is nonexistent. Core academics are average at best. There are a few shining diamonds among the teachers, but most are there for a paycheck and nothing more.

Generational mess. This school has a long history of prompting “click” behavior with a side bullying. A good portion of the staff also graduated from that school and have effectively continued this “click” culture with their own children now attending the school. It would be nice to see more diversity in the teaching staff. Norris is not a good school to find unity and acceptance for children. This school lacks growth and does not hold positive space for young children to embrace their own unique qualities.

My experience at this school was fantastic. I learned a lot about school, people, and life. I never had issues with other students, teachers, or other faculty because everyone there is wonderful.
