Fairmount is a fantastic school!! The staff are friendly and kind. The majority of teachers have years of experience. Teachers provide enrichment for students that need to be challenged and offer remediation for those students that need a little extra. My only complaint is the old building and parking log. It would be great if this school could be remodeled and have a decent playground for students.

It has not been a good year there. The school is disorganized in how they run the school. Every teacher is allowed to go off and do their own thing. Which you would think be a positive, and sometimes is. It depends on the teacher. Some teachers are self motivated and try to rise above the below average standards set by the school. Others use this as an excuse to simply get by. Some of the issues are they do not have opportunities for kids to challenge themselves other than bump them up a grade. Everyone has to work at the lowest common denominator. They do not split up in groups within the classroom based on skill level so that each group can be challenged and grow over the year. They only have 1 parent teacher conference at the beginning of the year instead of one at the beginning and one early spring. This makes it impossible to see if your child actually made progress and improved over the year. Some teachers can't even be bothered to grade homework papers. The principle is going to retire so his heart just isn't in it anymore. The car pickup system is terrible. Other schools do better with just as small parking lots. Bullying is not handled well. Disruptive classrooms are not dealt with unless you complain a lot. There curriculum is below many of the other elementary schools. This is setting up the elementary school to fail as a whole when it comes time for testing which is why they are rated so poorly. The school itself is very old. The district is not helping them out in this area. In 2016 they are going to build a new learning center behind this school, but the purpose of that is to alleviate overcrowding for the entire district, not specifically just for this school. It's very sad to watch your child play with a friend from another school district and see how much more advanced the friend is in their education than yours.

My son has gone to this school for three year and bullying has been a huge issue from the start. My son has been attacked many time thru out the years and I have had many head injury reports sent home in the three years he's been there. I have had many talks with the school and nothing has changed the same kids that are causing the issues were put In my sons class room. It's hardly a good leaning environment when your punched, kicked and bitten on a weekly basis. I would not recommend this school as it has failed to protect my child while in there care.

Our family has been a part of this school for 7 years, and are very happy with the teachers, the Principal, the lunch room staff - all of it! I can recommend Fairmount and say thank you for 7 great years!
