Top notch school district. Best public schools and staff in WA.

This school's version of "community" feels like being out on a little island by yourself. Both of my children do not enjoy it here. One is gifted and cannot get questions answered in class due to constant class interruptions that the teachers are not allowed to stop apparently. One struggles and is made to feel less than by other students and the administration looks the other way about it. It is not at all safe there. My children are so happy to be getting out of this place soon.

The Vice Principal, Grace Holden, should not be allowed anywhere near children. Zero empathy and has no clue how to deal with students, especially boys. She's dismissive and argumentative with parents. There's not collaboration with parents, it's obvious that she sees herself as morally and intellectually better than parents. Overall the school would be fine without her there, but as the lead disciplinary, she's a trainwreck.

This school has extremely poor leadership. The administration there (mainly the principal) is very rude and arrogant. They seem to come up with their own programs that are detrimental to the students. My student was bullied there by a TEACHER. This school fails in so many ways in teaching children of 6-8th grade. And now (2023) rely heavily on "online content" to supposedly teach. Like assigning watching a youtube video as homework or lesson. It's ridiculous.

Unlike the high school, Thunder Mountain has strong inclusive leadership. The Principal has been intentional about creating relationships with students of color. The VP has honest discussions with parents to help get their students on track in the behavior department and bullying is nearly non-existent. We were so glad our child went to Thunder and Black Diamond. So glad. The values of teachers and staff aligned with family values and missions. The ILC teacher is incredible and creative to get those students who struggle the very most to be part of the mainstream environment. The "Neighborhood" layout of the building prevents a lot of the typical middle school behavior. Teachers are in the hall in between all classes and aware of needs of all students not just the ones on of either end of the spectrum. This is a great school.
I have two children currently attending this school. I have been very pleased with our experience there. Being a parent who hated middle school myself, I was dreading my kids attending these grades, but our time at TMMS has been great.

Yesterday I was invited to attend your Veteran's Day assembly by my grandson Austin Willson. I knew he was giving a speech for his leadership class and I wanted to be there to support him. I was so moved by this assembly I had tears in my eyes. I get a little more emotional as I get older but this presentation for veteran's day was awesome. Not only were the presenters, the choir and the singer great, the whole student body and the teacher's impressed me as well. Great job Thunder Mountain. I am looking forward to the next assembly I am invited to.
