This is school is great! Both my kids have loved it so far. They have helped my son with even minor challenges in math and reading and their communication is great. The principal is the most involved I've ever seen and makes it a very fun learning experience for the kids.

Class sizes are too large, and this is a large school. When the district built the school, it’s focus was on a LEAD building, not the kids, going way over budget. The principal is only concerned with the staff and does not care about the kids. When open enrolment is at “full” you can still get your kids in if you are friends with the principal. There is no precative help for kids until they fall 2 grades behind. Most of the communications are about fundraises. I’m sure the school will improve when the principal moves on.

This is a nice school but district-level decisions make it mediocre. Class sizes are too big and this is a large school, partly because of open enrollment. The curriculum in the lower grades at least is poor. Very little science and social studies. The new Singapore Math is ridiculous. The teacher even said they don't put a lot of emphasis on it because it is above grade level, so they supplement it. The homework is busy work and irrelevant to the classwork (i.e., math is completely different), and the homework assignments have not changed yet all year. One of my children was recommended for Targeted Services, but when I turned in the form just a week later, I was told there were no openings left and she would be waitlisted. Have never heard back since, which is fine because when I explored more to find out why she was recommended, the reason I was given was silly: she failed one test because, while the actual calculations were all correct, she didn't write the problem sentences horizontally! There is not a lot of communication about what is happening in class (I read the other grade-level teachers websites instead to find out). Most communication from school is about fundraisers.

My children have been at twin lakes for 2 years now, and they are thriving. They look forward to school each day and their teachers work hard to make school fun while they are learning. Teacher communication is fabulous--I get a response within 24 hours of any questions I have asked. I have been impressed especially with the principal at Twin Lakes--he is so involved and knows my kids by name!

This school is based on appearances, who you know, and overpaid teachers. There is so little focus on doing what is best for the kids. While there are "fun" activities, recess and physical activity is a very low priority. Kids spend their day waiting around and being bossed around by teachers that only respect you if you are in the right clique.
