The past reviews about the JM.M.S school saying "its a bad school" "the school embarrassed my kids" " Not a good school I DON't RECOMMEND IT"well, in the school it's quite nice, maybe if you told the teacher that this happened multiple times, then they would have dealt with it but I guess none of you GUYS did tell a teacher about it. And if it was so bad, why didn't you take your kid to a different school then? don't be blaming your teachers or don't blame it on the school and their behavior, it not there fault that this is happening, kids just do it and it just happens but if the teachers tell them to stop doing it or whatever they might keep doing it PLUS.. what is suspending them going to do? suspend them and Tell the parents, and maybe teach them how not to do that! STOP BLAMING THE SCHOOL AND TEACHERS IT SO RUDE! Blame yourself AND the parents OKAY?

This establishment is filled with favoritism and bias I myself and fellow students have experienced this first hand very recently. The school like to get into our personal loves for situations that are not near as important as real issues in the such as vaping and smoking issues the food in the cafeteria is poorly made and cheap, I constantly come to find that the milk I drink is expeiered and throw up. The new principle is a very nice guy who I can rely on but when push comes to shove and something stupid happenes that would make anyone laugh they take more seriously then the kids vaping in the bathroom. I hate the constant need for us to do I ready it's the most annoying most aggravating thing I've ever had to do in my entire life most classes I rather die than be in. I don't know if it's just me but if I had kids u would do my very best to make sure he would never have to go what I had to go through, this is truly the worst school I could ever imagine.

The principal is a giant disaplinarian and favors students. Most times, I feel like she yells just to yell. She's very rude and entitled, and not to mention 2 years ago she yelled at me to put my phone away during a BOMB THREAT? I was TERRIFIED?! I was sending out my "I love yous" in case anything actually did happen. She left and I kept texting my mother then another teacher yelled at me? We were kept in a dusty ice rink for hours, which ai understand as an evacuation procedure, but nobody else got yelled at. Everybody else was on their phones. Not to mention, I have been hate crimed in the bathroom on several different occasions. A lot of the students are stuck up, obnoxious and insufferable. Most of the staff are good, like the vice principal, he's really nice, but some of them are rude. The teachers expect so much out of us in so little time. Every day, I enter school stressed and leave even more stressed. It's draining.

I am afraid to write anything bad about Principal Doyon for fear of taking it out on my son. She is a 100% Disciplinarian and even seems to enjoy the confrontation with parents and students. I have an underachieving son who is 13 and lazy, he hates Math, etc. not a big surprise. The staff is mostly nonempathetic and tucks tail when Doyon is on the prowl. 504 plans are non-existent, they write them but do nothing, and the "paraprofessionals" are somehow overwhelmed. My son constantly says I am trying my best but I cannot keep up, the teachers talk fast, write fast and no one takes notes. I have not seen a Textbook in years, just Google Classroom and I-ready. If a student falls behind it is his responsibility to do all the work or get a zero, after school program is the answer to everything. I put him in it, he needed Math help and all he did was I-ready. I need someone to help him one-on-one with Math. They always say he is not working up to his potential, try harder, work faster, and do 2 hours of homework a night. Some teachers go the extra mile but they have no resources or time to teach correctly and slowly, step by step. Every child learns at a different pace. It is a 4 out of 10 school, they do not get the money Branford gets so their hands are kind of tied but teaching should be a calling a passion Not a Paycheck. That's my opinion anyway.

Awful experience. Principal is entitled and a straight-up bully. She's a dictator that makes up stupid rules, and shackles student's rights to the point that they're too afraid to express any concern. So they just live with it. You can tell she only cares about the parent's money rather than students. Vice principal is just complacent. Teachers are often bullies as well, and teach kids that they're weaker and stupid just because they're kids. A lot of them are just aggravating and put kids second to their egos. I've had a few great teachers here, but the majority have just been headaches. Students are no better. So much physical and emotional bullying, my doctor told me it's best for my health to switch. Fights nearly all the time, and the 'popular' groups have absolutely no empathy for anyone. Guidance counselor is one of the only people we can actually rely on. Lunch is awful, and teachers constantly yell while you're trying to eat. It honestly feels like a prison. Iready (AKA pointless busy work) is taking up so much of the budget that we can't even have food at school dances. Nobody likes iready, and teachers claim it has helped students when it hasn't done a single thing. Most of us are simply not doing it in protest, and the principal has only responded by making our lives even worse. It's now a summative grade (70%), just to spite you since it's not supposed to be graded. It's busy work that's supposed to be 'training'.. if you don't do it you'll get a letter home, you miss out on school activities, could get kicked off sports teams. Budget got cut again so after school creative classes had to go. No more girls locker room cause kids were smoking pot. Nobody has actually said they like it here. It's been traumatic for a lot of my friends. It's also not very well maintained. You need to write a virtual pass just to wash your hands so no one really bothers. Have fun getting sick. Teachers are getting such little money for the curriculum that students have started buying supplies for their teachers. As a student, you have no free will. I'm even friends with the school secretary, and he has absolutely no power. The position is just a label really, because even the president can't do anything. It's a neverending depressive cycle for 3 years. I'm only in it because they didn't pick me for the academy, and I have no other choice within east haven. Don't send your kids here, love. And for everyone in it, I'm so sorry. It will soon pass. Soldier on.

This school provides great knowledge that my child needs she has been failing in math and she is now getting straight A's and has great friends. She tells me the teachers are very friendly with the students and they are easy to learn from. I defenetly recommend this school and I don't care what the rating says I know this school deserves the 5 stars!!

The school is an absolute circus. Some of the teachers are great but most of them are there simply because they need a job. It doesn't even seem like they like children. My child asked for help in the classroom but the teacher wouldn't help. He did notice that she was playing Candy Crush on her iPad. As dispicable as it sounds, if your child does not wear the "uniform," some of the teachers treat the kids differently. Any concerns a parent may have fall on deaf ears. Teachers blame administrators, administrators blame the Board of Ed. Good luck getting their attention. Their meetings include board members storming out and board members rolling their eyes. It's an absolute circus that I wouldn't even want to send my dog to!

I am selling my home and moving out of East Haven in search of a good school for my children. East Haven has innumerable issues and I do not recommend this town or this school. As in every community, there are good and bad in all, but the schools are terrible. Things are very political and discriminatory. Do not even consider East Haven if you are looking for a good school for your children.

My grandson attends J.M.Middle School in the 6th grade. He has leariing disabilities and was tested and granted a IEP. The administration is aware of this but evidently the teachers were not informed of this problem. They embarass him in front of the class and they do not take the extra time to help him with his assignments as required with IEP. The other kids harrass him, make fun of him and think it is quite funny when the teacher embarrasses him. They throw sand in him face when waiting for the school bus, they trip him in gym and one time he was pushed off the sidewalk into the road where the buses come. In my book this is called BULLYING from the kids and the teachers. I do not understand why this is allowed. My daughter has been in meetings at the middle school several times but nothing seems to be done about it. His therapist has also been to the school but again nothing is done about it. I would not reccomend this school to anyone who has a child going into the 6th grade. This is just not acceptable. Do we have to go down the legal road to get anything done for this boy??? If a teacher cannot handle her/his classroom why is he/she still teaching.
