Our son, who has dyslexia, had an excellent experience at Hill Center. He attended from 3rd through 6 grade. While I as his protective mother was full of doubt and second-guessing when he first started at Hill Center, I quickly saw the rewards of the curriculum. Hill Center is an amazing place. My son learned not only to accept his learning difference but also how to "manage" it. He has developed skills that have allowed him to soar educationally. Now, he understands that dyslexia is simply a learning difference that does not define him or prevent him from learning. Also, the teachers are beyond compare. Our son is now ready to transition back to his base school full time. Many thanks to the Hill Center for all you have poured into our son! He is ready for the next chapter in his educational journey thanks to this wonderful school.

The Hill Learning Center has been wonderful for my son! The teachers and administration have been very supportive. They celebrate their learners with popsicle days in the summer, and a sweet "closing ceremony" at the end of the summer term. The facility is lovely, and designed very well to achieve big gains in learning with small student-teacher ratios. I have seen immense growth in my son's reading and writing. His confidence has soared and we are grateful.

Our daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD in second grade. We were fortunate enough to have her dual enrolled at Hill and her home elementary school for her third-grade year. She was struggling with reading and math and was performing below her potential. The improvement was noticeable within the first month of her enrollment and progressed throughout the year. She ended the school year with a 5 (Superior Command) on her English EOG and a 4 (Solid Command) on her Math EOG at her home public school. I have zero doubt that the improvement was due to the staff and the Orton-Gillingham curriculum taught at Hill, as well as her hard work. The head of school, her teachers, and the entire staff exceeded our expectations. I can honestly say that every interaction with Hill was positive. The student-teacher ratio is 4 to 1, but there’s more to it. The teachers are amazing educators and love what they do. The staff goes above and beyond to help students. My daughter is now enrolled for fourth grade at Hill for 2024-25. In hindsight, this has been the best investment we could have made in her future and has made her a more capable and confident person.

Hill Center is considered the Holy Grail of remediation centers in the entire Raleigh Durham area yet in my experience it's a HUGE waste of money. The problem is, public schools are failing to teach the basics that children need, basic handwriting and basic reading at an appropriate age. What shocked me most about Hill Center was they do not even use the larger paper with the dotted center line for letter formation. After spending $20,000 + on a year at Hill my child's printing still looks like preschool level. This is shameful. A good tutor would be much better than the money spent here. And some of your own effort with your child. As far as family involvement expect that to mean FUND RAISING and seeking donations.

I've been going to the Hill Learning Center for all of high school, and I can truthfully say it saved my life. The teachers are kind, understanding, and good at helping everyone out. Behavior issues are not a problem, and on the rare occasion they are, the staff is open about correcting them.Hill is also great because tough conversations are allowed. Sometimes, we've taken part of class to discuss a serious real-world event. You don't feel like you need to hide your opinions. No one is judgemental.

The Hill Center is an amazing place. My son began attending the Hill Center his Sophomore year. After one week he came home and said - you know, I'm not stupid, I learn differently. I belong here. The 4:1 pupil:teacher ratio is magical stuff. No hiding and you child progresses at a pace good for him - not the entire class. My son gains a bit more confidence each day. His math skills are strong, his English skills exceptional and he holds his own in Spanish. The Hill Center diffused the pressure of education for our family - allowing us all to work together rather than the friction we experienced with other schools. All children should be able to attend a school like the Hill Center - it is the poster child of what learning should look like.

We just completed our third year at the Hill Center, my daughter began in 6th grade. I can not say enough about the approach, quality of teachers and overall educational progress she has made. This past year she made all A+'s in her courses, taking a writing class with highschool students. If you want a school that is able to see the learning differences of your child as an advantage in life and provide the real strategies for success, this is the place to be.

My first grader was diagnosed with ADHD and was significantly behind others first graders in reading and writing. He went to the Hill Center half days during second grade and make phenomenal progress in reading and writing and exceled in math. Most importantly to me, he continues to express interest in learning and has gained confidence in his abilities. He no longer says he isn't as smart as the other kids. I highly recommend the Hill Center.
