I've been happy with the progress my child made from the beginning of school to the end of school. It looks like the rating of the school went from a 7/10 to 4/10 and it serves as a reminder that every school needs to be evaluated by the parents using more than a metric created by a website. There are a fair amount of kids in a language immersion program at this school, and while they might show as slightly behind other kids in English only programs, there are unrivaled cognitive benefits to young children learning another language early in their life. This doesn't seem to be calculated into the current rating.

This school is below average in every way, we were told our son was in a class room of 15 students, it turns out to be 23 with a teacher that would have a hard time with 5. The principal is a temp and has no authority or control over the teachers at the school. The teachers deliberately give the student very low scores in the beginning of the year so they can embellish at the end of the year to help with advancement scores. Do yourself and your child a favor, check into private, home school or driving them to another. All the dangers you hear about what is going on in public schools is at this school, you and your student deserve better.

Excellent all around. Quibbles are with districts policies, not this school. Teachers are passionate and committed, parents are very involved.

There is a small break in communication with school and home. It is improving and I believe it will no longer be a problem.

Lowell School continues to strive for excellence. The parents, staff and principal work hard to maintain high achievement and a safe welcoming education for k-5 students. We include world music residencies for every grade level, involve students with service learning projects addressing local and international needs, maintain a school garden and encourage technology discovery with new Chrome books and iPad tools. The Duluth Public Schools has adopted a set of goals for the next four years and Lowell School strives to meet those goals by providing differentiated instruction to all our students. If you are looking for a school in Duluth come visit us, we would love to show you around.

This is my child's second year at Lowell after attending school elsewhere. The facility itself is still new and quite nice. Lowell is no longer a music magnet as of this year. The district is in disarray and many new teachers and students are being dumped into the facilities that remain open. This is apparent in the level of inconsistency of many of the processes and programs. Administration a quite loose, some of the basics are not being handled well. I am not from Minnesota, so I was astounded that at the very high state tax levels the schools were still out of money. The push to support fund raising activities through the students is beyond belief. The school is "OK". However if there were non-religious private school options in Duluth I would enroll my child there.
