This is my son Daniel's 6th year in this school. To start finding a school for a kid in the spectrum is the most stressful thing that a parent might have to face. Knowing that your kid has all he needs to do good, but having schools look down on him just because of his challenge and not the disability. That is what I learn in American Preparatory Acadamy. From the front desk to the principle everyone is amazing. They learn everything about your child and even if he is not part of their curricumlum, they all take care your child. The teachers are amazing, the principles has gone out of her way to help my son when he is going through a meltdown. I believe APA has been one of the best thing that has happened to Daniel and us as his parents. I'm grateful to God, for allowing us to have our son Daniel in this school. We had mainstreamed him and we were not able to do it without the help of not the staff, but the TEAM of American Preparatory Academy. At least that's how it feels, for them is not a job but a calling. Thank you APA for all you do to help families and kids out there like mine.

School has gone downhill drastically since Ms. Soraya left. Constant staff turnover, no real guidance counselor, and teachers hold not training in special education.

As a mother of an Autist Son, I can say that this school is the best that happened to me family since de diagnosis. The team of teachers, specialist and even the administration is always open to help and guide us in the process. My son achievements has been possible thanks to their work. My niece has been attending American Preparatory Academy since 2016. She had been bullied in her previous school and was struggling academically because of the lack of personalized attention, since she was in public school with about 30 kids in her class. Since moving to APA, she has thrived. She is happy to go to school and feels like she has her “safe space” outside from home. I had the opportunity of interacting with Ms. Soraya and now with Prof. Wain. I have to say that both principals are dedicated human beings who find what they do a vocation. I love the emphasis on giving students coping mechanisms and teaching them life skills. The faculty and staff really reflect the same care as the principals. It really is an excellent environment for a child to thrive.

My child was at this school for many years and it was a great fit for him. However, since last year when the school changed principals every thing became chaotic and unorganized with school schedules, class work, communication and the principal seemed very fluttered when having to answer questions or she simply would just say she doesn’t know and go on with her day. The new principal has no knowledge on how to run a school that has children with different disabilities. The school work most teachers are teaching is below average with maybe 2 to 3 teachers that know what their doing and care for their students. Most staff and teachers at this school are not certified to handle children that may not be neurotypical. Also teachers for the past 2 years or so have been coming and going making it difficult for teacher and students to build a bond. This school seems to only care about money and how many kids they can pack into their school at least this is what it looks like to me. My advice is to try any other school before going here. I wish I would have before the new principal took over with very little experience on how to run this type of school. I would have changed schools in a heart beat.

This school used to be great, but they have lost valuable staff and made changes that are making it more of a neurotypical learning environment.

If there would be a number below 0 I would choose that.

There are grades missing for weeks. Teachers grade randomly, to a point where 3-6 weeks of grades are missing in some cases. This is NOT allowed in public, charter, or solid private schools. (Oh..but I can't say anything.."Why are we here?"). Some teachers grade daily only for a week, like "bringing supplies," but ignore the rest of the quarter. So if a child missed the supplies only ONE day, the grades will be unfairly affected. Some grade on the same weaknesses, twice or up to three times; they just fall under different titles. The sad thing is that they don't see how this is wrong, nor they understand "bias/unfair grading." Oh..but wait, we have to be grateful because they care and love our children, because no one else would. When asked about grades, they mention how all of the children have issues, or how your child still doing great!. It's about principle. If it's not allowed for regular students, it shouldn't be allowed with our children. When provided with just a day to study for major tests, like midterms (moving the pre-assigned dates) or not given a previous notice, you can't say anything. "It wouldn't matter anyway...your child has a disability." That is the message that is being sent. My child has weaknesses, but he is brilliant and has proven to be so with thorough, fair, and understanding teachers in this same school.

Some of the teachers at this school do not care for certain children. They lie when you ask for clarification and you have no choice, as a parent, to stay quiet. They don't want or accept a parent communicating with them. Many teachers/staff don't seem to be certified or have an understanding of how grading works. There are some teachers who are really good, like Mr. Francis and Ms. Gonzalez. Your child will fall behind, and you can't do anything about it.

I'm a parent of a struggling Child with Attention Deficit disorder. They work in smaller groups and treat them like family. I love it. His grades are fantastic and the Athletics department help him a lot!

As a former teacher at American Prep Academy, I can say that it was one of the best teaching experiences I've had.My co-workers were such a team and we all worked together to develop the 'whole' child.

One of my kids have ADD. His grades @ the public system were at floor levels. His behaviour was getting affected too. As soon as he got into APA his grades were skyrocketing. The teacher student ration is 10 to 1 or less. He is learning at his own pace and he is happy. No behaviour incidents. Thank you APA

American Preparatory School is a School for children that are running behind. Kids that the Public System forgot,. My Child is a 504 student and the public system did NOTHING to help him. As soon as he entered the school he felt welcome and understood that he was not the only child in the world with difficulties in learning. Thanks to American Preparatory Academy he started liking to go to school again.

I was a student in this school for 5 years. Let me say that those 5 years were really WONDERFUL! The teachers and staff are very helpful and caring, they will always go out of their way to help their students achieve to their highest potential. I have mild autism as well as Chronic Motor Tic Disorder and ADD. My life hasn't always been easy. I've gone through many struggles and faced many barriers. In the public middle school I attended before, I was faced with bullying and exclusion from some of the staff and teachers. I was in doubt on whether or not I was going to make it through, my ADD had taken a huge effect on my learning. It was hard for the teachers to figure me out and work with my difficulties. They had over 25 students in the class and barley bothered with me. I was excluded because they apparently thought that I wasn't worth the time and effort. My parents had to literraly fight for me to get what I needed. I relocated to APA and everything changed, with teachers and staff members that took the effort to work with me, and their positive pursuation, that stimulated an influence for me to keep going. I eventually improved. I just graduated, and I'm on my way to college!
