My child switched here after being bullied at the county school and really likes it. They include all students in activities and they seem to have a good and respectful student teacher relationship. While you might have a question about enrolling your child here I definitely recommend it if you just look past standardized testing scores. My daughter is on two sports teams and even though she isn't the star player her and everyone else made the team and she usually plays in games. She said there are so many friendly kids and teachers and that she can tell no bullying issues. Althought trhe building is not modern that has nothing to do with how well they learn. I'm so glad I found this school and if you live in the Danville area than I would definitely check it out.

Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, JWBMS has offered my 3 children a nurturing environment in which they could excel. Bate is a small middle school (in a small independent school district) that affords all students an opportunity to participate in school sports and extracurricular activities. For example, we are fortunate that no middle schoolers were cut from either the girls’ volleyball or soccer teams and we appreciate this is not always the case at a larger school. In addition, my 3 kids have participated in an Academic Team/ Quick Recall program that has qualified to attend the State tournament every year for the past two decades! I encourage anyone looking to locate in the Danville area to look beyond a mere test score. Take the time to tour our schools and actually meet our teachers and staff.

I have a son that just finished John W. Bate Middle school and a 6th grader there. Both kids love the school and have wonderful teachers. The building is older however this does not diminish the education the students receive. All students have great access to arts programs, athletic programs, and extra curricular academic opportunities. The staff does and excellent job communicating with parents and keeping them informed about events.

My children have had wonderful experiences at John W. Bate Middle School. The teachers and administration really care about the students. There is an amazing engineering lab!

Let's be honest here. The school is a fairly descent school. The teachers are pretty good teachers. The real issue seems to be the thug mentality that accumulates here beginning in 6th grade. Teachers can only do so much when there's no one at home to teach or even reinforce respect and rules! It's not ok if your child doesn't respect others and personal spaces. ;-(

My chid currently goes there and has since 6 th grade. Thank God this is her last yr there. It has been a totally nightmare.. There are to many cliques, too much bullying, that is not dealt with, one teacher likes to make fun of certain students, and makes faces at them in the hallways. I can say there is a couple of good teachers, but that don't over look the bigger problems.. The bullyng is terrible and of course they seem to get away with it!!
