Mitchell is our neighborhood school and we have absolutely loved our time there. My son is just finishing 2nd grade and has truly thrived at Mitchell academically and socially. As a parent, I have enjoyed being involved in our PTA (which is amazing!) and meeting all of the wonderful staff and parents who truly care about our children and our school. This site looks like it may be outdated. For example, the principal is incorrect as we have had a new principal for several years now. I don't feel that the test scores are accurately reported either. For example, Mitchell just showed the most progress in MAP scores of the entire district across all Tier level of students. This is huge! I don't feel that the data represented on the site is accurate and could potentially deter incoming families.

Each year we have been at Mitchell, I have been increasingly happy with the instruction my child has received. Our teachers have been fantastic and always go above and beyond. The Principals are caring, kind, and there to support the level of success for all of our students. In the last year and a half it has become a bilingual campus, and I love that my child has the opportunity to learn about different cultures and languages as well. There is such an overwhelming sense of community here, and the PTA offers lots of events and volunteer opportunities to meet other families in our area. We have made lots of forever friends here! So happy that we chose to go here and be a part of PISD.

My child is starting grade 3 at MES & started kinder during the pandemic. The principal was promoted to district admin, and the asst principal became the Principal. He has done an excellent job, especially considering the stress of the pandemic. He is an African American and was joined by a new bilingual Latina AP in 22-23. Together, they make a great team and are racially representative of the majority of the school. They have led the school through re-emergence after the pandemic, implemented a house system, and led the school through becoming a one-way Dual Language School in 22-23 under a district plan. They bring great ideas, are compassionate and strong under pressure, have humor, welcome ideas, listen to parents thru surveys and being very present and engaged, and partner well with the PTA to benefit the school and fulfill teachers’ needs. Teachers are dedicated, engaged, kind, and available to parents. The school has a variety of cultures, incomes, races, and family types. It has strong engagement and support from local neighborhoods. WE<3MES! Welcome!

This is our neighborhood school and we do feel like part of a community here. My daughter has made a lot of friends and there are many opportunities to volunteer at the school, go to events, and meet parents/teachers. The teachers work really hard to make sure they are meeting each child’s needs, even having individual assignments for each student in the room. During COVID we did remote learning for a year and it went better than I ever could’ve imagined. This is a title 1 school and the administration really uses their extra funds to enhance each child’s education. We have a school wide book club and free field trips for all the students each year.

We have been very happy with Mitchell. The way they have handled learning during the pandemic has been excellent. The teachers have all been fantastic. I appreciate all the precautions they take and how they adapt through this ever-changing time. My child loves her teacher and all her classmates, and has made lots of friends. We have been very pleased with the administration overall, and would definitely recommend this school.

Throughout this challenging year, the staff at Mitchell has exceeded my expectations at every turn. The communication this year has been excellent, as well as the safety. Both in person and virtual students are supported by staff and teachers. Every effort has been made to make this year great even under the adverse circumstances.

I am continually impressed with this school. Throughout this challenging year, the school has not missed a beat! Communication has been consistently strong, and the teachers and administrators have really gone above and beyond this year. They have kept school safe, fun, and engaging for all students, both in-person and virtual. We are so proud to be a part of the Mitchell community!

We could not be more pleased with the education our child is receiving at Mitchell. Our child is in her second year at Mitchell (K and 1st). The teachers have been accessible, friendly, caring and excellent educators. There are alternate education paths for students with different capabilities and needs. Principal Bob Farris is friendly, accessible, active in all school events, and even greets the students at the door every morning. The school has an active Watch DOGS program that involves Dads in daily school life, which is very popular. The facility itself is modern and in excellent physical condition. We would like to see additional after school options similar to other nearby PISD elementary schools, but that is a minor point when compared to the overall quality of education and care at Mitchell. We are extremely satisfied and happy with Mitchell and its staff.

This is my son's 3rd year at Mitchell and we absolutely love it!! My son has ADHD and I was told by his previous private school staff members that we would have a difficult time getting any services for him and the complete opposite has been true. Every staff member we know has be amazing, loving, kind and above all, caring. Every teacher we have had has gone above and beyond to make sure my child is learning. We also love the diversity there. The PTA is extremely active. I was pleased to learn all of the things the PTA pays for and does. Last year, the PTA purchased 12 IPads for the library!! Mitchell is a wonderful school!!

I can't say enough about this school. My son went to Brinker at first and although Brinker has better test scores, Mitchell is better in so many ways. The Mitchell principal is freaking awesome. He is present every morning and afternoon greeting and giving high fives to students. He returns calls. He cares. Teachers are not too strict and are genuinely nice. The school lets you know, via email and other online communication tools, what kids learned and what they expect to teach weekly. The school is very diverse as well which I like because that represents the country we live in. Oh my goodness, I forgot to mention...When we first registered at Mitchell as a new family, I asked to meet with the principal (yes I do that because I am an involved parent). He met with me along with my son's new teacher for 30 mins. I asked questions and they explained school philosophy, security, programs, expectation of kids, etc. The school even has a parent teacher liason that called me to welcome our family to the school and explained the liason role and how she bridges the gap to help resolve and mitigate issues before it escalates to the principal.

Where do I even begin? Condescending staff. My child had over FIFTEEN teachers last year in kindergarten because it was "cheaper" to keep rotating subs rather than find a temp. I watched two teachers release a child into the care of a woman who was high on drug - while other parents protested. Only after I contacted the school board did the administration take it seriously. My child went MISSING at school and I was only notified after they found her two hours later. My child was dropped off a mile away from our house and walked from Frankford up North Dallas Pkwy. The PTA is closed minded and when you ask for help or input they issue formal letters kicking you off the PTA. I watched the light leave my what was a happy, enegetic, independent, eager to please child. My child became angry, frustrated, and confused. This horrible school had me believe that it was my child who was the problem. (The school my child is at this year has proven how wrong and aweful Mitchell Elementary and its teachers/staff were.) Shame on all of you! Everyone at this school needs to be fired and START OVER!

Mitchell Elementary is run as a dictatorship. The teachers love and admire the current Principle, as she is a teacher s principle. No extra circular activity is required of the teachers unless it is related to enhancing test scores or mandated by the school board. She has a strict rulebook with out flexibility for the students and parents resulting in a close door policy if it does not fall into the self imposed rules. The main focus of the school is State Standard Testing Scores, as in any public school unfortunately the campus has taken it to an extreme and drained the life out of the children and the school. Take the time to walk the halls if you are considering this school, what you will observe is the silence, bare walls, no color or warmth. With the locked down campus, teacher armed with walkie-talkies, unsmiling faces and curt manner.

I have been a parent at Mitchell Elementary for 10 years since we chose our house specifically for a strong Elementary, Middle School and High School(s) for our 3 girls ages 15,14 and 9. I am now on my 3rd principal and I can't say enough about how great the staff and Leadership is with Ms. Rucker. I agree with the comments below saying bullying issues were not dealt with with the last principal but things have improved now. 2 of my 3 daughters have had issues affecting their performance. In each case, solutions and support were offered to improve the situation. PTA and parent involvement is high for this school and that makes a tremendous difference.

When my bright and usually on-target 5th grader began to struggle with math, her teacher called me to discuss it. Instead of the usual talks about enforcing study habits, lamenting disorganization, wanting to punish her with less recess, etc. I was told that she could be enrolled in extra tutoring twice a week and math club after school once a week. How nice to have a school that offers solutions!

Mitchell Elementary is one of the best elementary schools in North Dallas. Highly qualified & loving teachers. Wonderful community: boy scouts, girl scouts, soccer, baseball, church's w/ excellent youth programs, major hospitals and shopping within 2 miles. Location, Location w/ 1-2 min access to North Dallas Tollway or 190 George Bush turnpike. See Frankford Exit off Tollway, or Midway exit off 190 George Bush Turnpike. Plano ISD, but City of Dallas address. Wonderful place to call home.

I've been in love with this school since my son began in Kindergarten. He is in 5th now. I must say all the student support and programs as well as the excellent teacher is great. What is not so great is the elitist attitude most of the parents have. My son has been since Kindergarten. He is nice, well behaved, smart and funny, yet he hasn't been invited to a birthday party since 1st or 2nd grade. I think they look at you for what you have or percieve that you haven't and not for who are. I'm just saying the way I see things. If it weren't for the great staff I'd have left long ago. The good outweighs the bad and God bless them all.
