I am the parent of four alumni who are now in the County's schools. As a whole, my family believes that Dahlgren was the BEST school my children ever attended. The teachers are keenly attuned to student needs and are very adept at making the course changes necessary to give each child the instruction they need to be sucessful. My oldest had failed at the four school he attended prior to Dahlgren. Teachers at those schools labeled him as lazy. The teachers at Dahlgren took the time to get to know him and understand what caused him to do poorly academically. They got him the help and resources he needed to succeed and turned his F's into A's. They also provided my other children with enrichment opportunities that have allowed them to breeze through their current courses. Dahlgren School has an open but safe environment that welcomes all. Parents and community volunteers partner with the staff to provide world class instruction. Students are accepting and supportive of each other. The result is a school that provides superb instruction tailored to meet the needs of each student in a warm and supportive environment that encourages learning, what more could you want!

Dahlgren school has been a great experience for my son. He adores his teacher who of course is very nice and sweet and at the same time enforces the rules and provides an atmosphere of safety and discipline. He comes home everyday having learned something new and not only that but he's always excited about it. I would recommend Dahlgren school to any parent.

I Love Dahlgren school! One thing top of my list is safety! You can rest assured knowing your children are safe! The small class size ensures a personal one on one teaching style which is excellent and allows for much differentiation. If your child is ahead or below the teacher has the ability to adapt their teaching to your accommodate your child. Almost all the students come from the same lifestyle, they understand moving and being "the new kid" in school and are warm and excepting when you arrive here. The staff is very up front with their policies and stick to it. They enforce the rules and don't tolerate bad behavior. I have never had a problem getting my issue resolved in a timely professional manner. We came from public school in CA and there is nothing better then a DODEA school! You have to know that there is no money in public schools you have to buy all your school supplies the teachers are limited to how many copies they can make and are always asking for copy paper, pencils, glue sticks, hand sanitizer, tissue etc. Here your teachers are able to concentrate on teaching and loving your Children! The curriculum is at or above the average.

We began our relationship with Dahlgren school years ago when my son was 3 years old and needed special ed school aged services. We moved back to sea duty and returned here again for shore duty. The school is the reason we chose to live on base. We moved back here when my son was in third grade. The special ed teacher and speech therapist remembered us when we got here. My child who has autism has thrived in this school more than we ever could have expected. Now in 6th grade, he has had the continual support of an amazing special ed teacher and aide. The SpEd teacher support several students throughout the school and is always there for parents when they need her. We've never had to ask more than once for something to be done. The school is small, you can't deny that. It does limit social interactions, but what it lacks in that, it more than makes up for in instruction. The one on one support students can recieve is beneficial for so many students here. The technology available in classrooms in more than you'll see in most civilian schools too. I recommend this school to any military family considering moving here. Your children will benefit from everything offered.

A PHENOMENAL SCHOOL! I wish I could have went to a school like this. Dahlgren School is essentially a private school education. It has a great student to teacher ratio; allowing our children to receive the benefit of more assistance if needed. The teachers are fantastic and more than willing to go the extra mile, ensuring our kids are receiving a quality education and that the parents stay informed. The curriculum is accurate and appropriate, in fact, it's more challenging than most other schools ( A GREAT THING ). My son is now in high school and he is doing some of the things he's already done at Dahlgren Middle School. The kids put together a wonderful "welcome to Dahlgren Video" for the newly arriving children, and they also participate in ANTI-bulling activities. The parents who get involved with their child's education would know this. As in ANY school, unfortunately, kids can be mean but here, it's a VERY RARE occasion (blame the parents, not the school). The Dahlgren school promotes personal growth and takes a very genuine interest in your child's well being. Navy family's can not find a better school or learning environment anywhere unless you pay for it.

Dahlgren School is WONDERFUL! I think it's the best school in the world! My son started school there in Pre-K and Kindergarten. And, we moved back to Dahlgren FOR the school when he was in the 6th grade. The staff and students are friendly. The kids become extremely close. It's a "family like" feeling. The teachers are great! They work so hard to help every student succeed...it's what they do! Communication with parents is top notch. Their willingness to work with a child based on individual needs is always high priority. They offer extra curricular activities, including basketball & track. This is a nice benefit for a small school. AVID is also offered. The AVID program is phenomenal! It's a definite benefit for middle school students. NJHS is also available. Dahlgren has a great library, offering a wide variety for all grades. Books on tape and DVDs are also available. The librarian is knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to help. She's also a math whiz! Dahlgren School has the feel of a small private school. Children get the very best education here. My son has made life long friends. We feel blessed that he was able to attend 6,7 & 8th grade at Dahlgren School!

This school is very small, some classes only have a few students. Small class size can be appealing, however the lack of peers can be also a negative. The principal has very poor disciple abilities. Bullying by one family in particular is very prominent and neither the school or base command have enforced any policies to have the stopped. The lack of discipline has created a unacceptable atmosphere in the school, one that many parents complain about, and complaints go un addressed. We will not continue to send our children to this school as a result of on-going issues that after 20 months time have gone unaddressed. It's very sad that a DoDea is doing so poorly.

The school is very clean and small. The prinicipal and most of the staff are very nice. The curriculum, though, is behind many public schools. My kids came in from a public school in a different state. Here, they are learning the same things they learned in the previous grades at their old school. Social interaction is very limited at this school due to the very low numbers. There aren't many options for playmates for the kids. The school doesn't do anything for bullying or bad behavior unless they feel it was directed towards the staff. The Special Ed is completely nonexistant. There is only 1 child. That's not a dept. The school doesn't deal with disabilities very well. The children aren't academically challenged. After school activities are limited to what parents volunteer to lead which leads to favortism and questionable behavior. Yes, you get the nice small school feel but at the cost of what? Lack of challenges, lack of recognition, lack of control. When kids leave and go to public schools afterwards, they are completely unprepared.
