i went there 7th and 8th grade 2022-2023 2023-2024 . i was a freshman this year the first quarter. the administration was completely messed up and different. horrible unnecessary policies were enforced. it got to a point where the school did not care about our education, they cared about their image and our behavior. my parents and i emailed admins and faculty about multiple concerns and we were left with NO response. now granted, i have had an amazing experience with covington latin the past 2 years. but it just kept going downhill. they completely changed everything. in my opinion, this year they treated us like we were kids that needed discipline or needed to be reformed or something. if i was CLEARLY struggling in a class, i would get more warnings and detentions for my dress code or not having my lock on my locker or something unnecessary, than any emails or notes of concern for me. it is really sad what happened. it used to be a great school and now it is not. they lowered the expectations for the placement test and now young children are entering the school in the seventh or eighth grade. the stupid and unnecessary policies, constant pressure and anxiety were way to harsh to be able to learn in such a environment. they clearly no longer cared for our education. at the beginning of the year, 7th, 8 th, and my grade were sat down in the auditorium to be lectured about how we are supposed to respect the teachers. now i 100% support respect of all teachers, but she was acting like we were bad students that didn’t. there was no recognition or accountability for us in the lecture. just over and over again about rules and regulations. at a certain time in the assembly, the principle, Dr. Knoll told us we were “just as smart as the other kids at different schools”. and the teachers could go teach there for more money or something else. LIKE WHAT? we were the people overpaying by 13-15 thousand a year and we were getting lectured about teachers and how we need to obey them. well to sum it up i would no longer recommend this school to anyone. please send your child somewhere else.I WAS PULLED OUT OF COVINGTON LATIN THIS YEAR AFTER THE FIRST QUARTER**

Bad school. Not many of the teachers care about personal lives and think that everyone has a bunch of free time. Its a bunch of stress for what it really is and you better expect to always be stressed out and to have no life at this school. Getting free time even on weekends is rare and even in my prep years id pull all nighters for multiple nights straight so I could finish all my homework. They’re not very accepting of those with other beliefs and will indirectly belittle them the entire time you’re there. They also play huge favoritism on those they like and if they don’t like you they will jump at any chance they have to expel you.

My daughter goes to CLS. I do have to say, the teachers there are great. The education itself is great for my kid. There's just one concern I have for the schoool if you ever do consider letting your kid trying to go there: the students are truly "special." From what my daughter has told me, all of the students look dead inside. They seemed to talk as if their existence is pointless and meaningless. The prep right there is where I have my most concerns, especially with one student who I think may be messed up in the brain. They constantly flinch and shriek at everything. I've also had my daughter tell me about her seeing a certain group of prep eights that are around on the second floor in a group. Their actions are really strange. I heard one time that same flinching student grabbed some student violently. While I don't personally blame the school itself on these students' actions, it's making me concern for my daughter. I would rather not have her go to school with these people. Until I see better behavior in students, then I'll really think if my daughter should stay in CLS.

When you register for CLS, you have to know what you're getting into. Rigorous coursework, and hours upon hours of homework are to be expected. In order to do well a student must be fully dedicated to academic excellence. Slackers will be gone by sophomore year. Overall, it's a great school, it's just not for everyone.

Unfortunately, Covington Latin School loses 1/3 of its students between freshman and senior years. Some leave on their own, others are told to leave. It's not the work itself that is too hard, it's the workload. It is just not manageable for some kids to do 4+ hours of homework each night. I also don't think the administration realizes how crushing it is to a young teen to fail in high school. Instead of bringing in more students at a younger age, the school needs to take care of the students who are there.

It's a challenging school, very heavy workload and sink or swim atmosphere. They recruit smart kids, but the program is not individualized, so smart kids can and do fail and there is no meaningful remedial help. If I had it to do over again, I would send my child elsewhere; too much pressure and stress for young kids in my opinion.

Not every student is cut out for Covington Latin School. It is a challenging school with a high attrition rate. The students graduate high school at a very young age - 15 - 17 years which shows that they take care of a special group of kids. All of my children went to CLS. Two decided to leave after a year or two, and two graduated from the school. I cannot find blame for my two children who decided to leave CLS because the teachers are very attentive to the students' needs and give many opportunities for success.

I am a Junior at this school now and I think this is one of the best schools out there. The teachers are all amazing and truly care about their students. The academic root that we are given is both challenging yet still attainable. Though having to suffer through two years of Latin (that being the only down side having to take Latin) I think this school is great

Im a current student at this school. Going into my Junior year. Everyone here is a little wierd in their own way. Im pretty socially awkawrd sometimes, for example. You know, just not the "cool kids" at public schools. I would not fit in so well at a public school. This is the best environment i could ever hope for in a school. I fit in so well, and everyone is so nice,... we truly are a family at this school. Also an amazing education. The work is not difficult, it is all work ethic.

My husband and three of our children attended Latin School. All of them loved it. It is challenging, but well worth the effort. The small classes are a plus and the new labs currently being built will only further the students' ability to do well in college and beyond.
