I am a parent with two students at Sonora elementary and I can’t express how overlooked this school is. The teachers are fantastic, hardworking and the principal is a great leader. They are always thoughtfully bringing in programs for students’ enrichment as well as plenty of field trips for out of the classroom experiences. My kiddos have learned so much here and have become true readers. There’s an active PTA here as well working their tails off to help make the students and families a real community with movie night, trunk or treat and cinco de mayo events. Parents can often get distracted by the magnet or private schools but it’s really unnecessary- if you take the time to look under the hood, it’s a great place for students to grow and families to be apart of.

So far my children are happy and well adjusted to the school and the teachers. It is nice to know, that not only the teachers who teach my kids know my kids, so do teachers from other classrooms. Really feels like a community.

Violet Marquez did not take care of my special needs children to the best of her ability. We had to move them to a better school. I guess I owe you a big THANK YOU! Violet Marquez. My kids are doing awesome now.

My daughter has attending kindergarten and the first few months of first grade at Sonora, and she's done so well here. We've been so fortunate with the teachers and staff. And she's been getting along so well with her classmates, it breaks my heart to have to move her to a different school since we're moving. We even like the after school ROCKS program with the city of Costa Mesa, which is well priced. The curriculum is can be a little overwhelming for my daughter, but school and teachers have provided us with multiple resources. They offer healthy meals at the cafeteria. They have fun field trips. And the PTA has so much to offer. My only issue was security and how the school seemed so "exposed", as well as the one of the ladies at the front office. For working at an elementary school, she never seemed that friendly. Otherwise, we're really going to miss this school!

Both of our boys attendedSonora & are now succeeding in middle/high school. Many Sonora graduates go on to be campus leaders in high school. My boys got an excellent foundation to build on. They were always placed with classes or groups to challenge them and help them develop to their ability. Because music and the arts are a priority at Sonora, they experienced a well rounded education. Finally, the parent involvement is huge and makes a difference. Whether through PTA, Dads Club, or just supportive parents & grandparents, Sonora families know how much the help and involvement makes a difference. Sonora students are College bound!

My child did not get the individual attention he required. It seemed that the teacher just wanted him to fail.

So if you are into fund raising this school is for you... My daughters teacher was Ok. However as a parent I was not really kept informed as to what was happening at the school so much t the point that i had no idea they had picture day until the pictures came home.. I was lucky i did my daughters hair that day.. She is in Kinder so you would think you would not leave important information in the hands of 5 and 6 year old children, but they do. The Principal great on the other hand bent over back wards to help my family out too bad she was no the teacher.
