I love it so, so much! It's has become a part of our lives that we will always cherish.

After a year a kindergarten in a more traditional curriculum, our child was not only not thriving, but was saying "I hate school!" - the last thing a parent wants to hear. We decided it would be best to repeat kindergarten in a new setting that better aligned with our values and our child's needs, and are so incredibly grateful to have landed at Miquon. Learning through doing, embracing curiosity, and including the importance of the natural world have given our child the space and ability to thrive, to come home tired and happy and full, humming songs they have learned along the way. Miquon is a really special place, and while you feel this in your bones when you visit the campus, our experience getting to know the staff and other families, the weekly newsletter, and the stories our child shares at the end of the day solidify this invaluable experience.

Miquon offers a stellar education that allows children to be children, and the entirety of the campus, inside and out, to be a place where learning is hands-on and child-led.When you have two kids who go to school, looking forward to Mondays and the end of summer, you know you have entered somewhere special. Miquon is truly like no other school ever seen or experienced. Children are always top of mind, and every decision is thoughtfully made with students always at the forefront. Imagine a school, Nursery through 6th, where every staff member and teacher takes the time to know and understand the unique and special qualities that make up your kid. Miquon is progressive education that truly fosters a love of learning. Nobody at Miquon teaches to the answer of any given question. They instead teach children the joy of wondering and thinking. Whether in science, math, language arts, writing, or playing in the creek, Miquon teaches children that the journey to the answer is just as important as the answer. The creative and cognitive process allows children to revel in their unique approach and celebrate the joyous ways of problem solving. They call it 'Miquon Magic', and it is somewhat magical; but it is critical to know it is all based on a very strong curriculum. Miquon kids always ask questions, wonder, "Why?" and think openly. Curiosity is cultivated, as well as independence and empowerment. Oh, and on top of an outstanding education, they foster empathic children who respect each other, the environment, and the bigger world in which we all live. Kids can only be kids for a short time. Miquon understands and nurtures the child. This is one very special school, and I am so honored that our children are a part of the gift that is a Miquon education.

The Miquon School has surpassed our wildest expectations as a school for our daughter. The campus is beautiful, surrounded by lush forest with a creek running through, where the children can play everyday! The staff is very caring and knowledgeable about cultivating curiosity, confidence and a love of learning. My daughter entered kindergarten with little interested or skills in reading and writing. Now, after only 3 months, comes home writing short phrases and showing off her abundance of sight words. The positive effect on her confidence and knowledge has come through full force since the first weeks at Miquon and she even teaches me new things about nature! The Miquon School is truly a model for what a progressive and nurturing learning environment should be.

Miquon is an amazing school. They excel at providing individualized instruction to all students. Their teachers are amazing and constantly responsive to the needs of their classes. Their values-based messaging on the importance of respect and compassion towards others is a comfort to me. Additionally, their campus is beautiful and is regularly integrated into class activities. I am so proud to be a part of their community and would recommend it to anyone.

Miquon is a deeply caring school that provides a top-notch education, while nurturing the soul and individuality of its students. The curriculum brings the larger world into the classroom with hands-on experiential learning and discussion about contemporary issues without being didactic. Children are encouraged to express differences of opinion in a safe supportive environment. They graduate knowing and feeling good about themselves as both learners and citizens. The school is interested in evolving to meet the needs of it's students and community, not to simply impose a formulaic approach to learning and life. The teaching staff is hard working, highly skilled, and yet open to new ideas and ways of approaching teaching. And as a bonus, all this occurs on a beautiful campus that allows children to run free in nature and truly experience the magic of childhood.

Thoughtfulness and curiosity reign in this educational community where children learn to be compassionate citizens who are confident in themselves and deeply respect the natural world. We are so grateful to have Miquon in our lives!

I could not be happier with a school for my children. The teachers are attentive to the individual character and needs of each child. They approach each lesson and each interaction with intention. The school places a high value on each child's learning experience, more than formal/rote learning - which means that children grow at Miquon learning HOW to think, how to be excited about the discovery of learning, how to care for themselves, each other and their community -- all this, to me, is so important. As a parent, I feel incredibly supported, too - I can feel the school community caring for my children in a way that makes me feel a support network for myself, too. As I bumble along as a parent, making mistakes as we all do, I know it's ok because the school is helping me raise my kids to be caring, compassionate, engaged and confident children.

Wonderful. My kid loves everything about it and is living learning because of it!

This is a painful review for me to write and my only hope is that it will serve as notice for Miquon to take stock of its position and readjust their priorities:For years I have seen an obvious tension at Miquon between two approaches to what the best environment for teaching elementary age children should be. One view held that childhood is a special time that should be protected from the issues du jour of the adult world. The other view is that Miquon should “change the world” by immersing children in the adult world of highly politicized and often partisan “social justice” issues in contemporary society. Fortunately, there were respected senior staff who were able to keep Miquon focused on preserving childhood rather than pushing children into the adult world as quickly as possible. However, over the past few years those staff members have retired or left and been replaced by a new generation of “woke” social justice warriors who wholeheartedly subscribe to pushing adult world controversies into the elementary school curriculum. These staff are often buttressed in their position by a minority of highly vocal parents who are looking for the school to instill their own activist views into the classroom. The result is often an over simplified and one-sided “black and white” view of modern issues without any time spent on understanding the history behind those modern day issues.Miquon needs to get back to the business of providing elementary education in an environment that protects childhood. Miquon graduates need to be able to move to middle school with a solid understanding of themselves as well as a solid foundation of math, writing skills, science, art and history. They don’t need to know how to march in protest or be activists in adult world issues that they don’t fully understand yet.In short: Miquon needs to get back to what it was founded on.

Very mixed experience here over a long time. Years ago it seemed that Miquon had a great teaching staff. Over time there have been changes, some good, some not so good. We no longer feel that Miquon consistently prepares children well for middle schools. One of the 5th/6th grade classrooms has hardly taught anything at all for 2 years running. The lack of a clear academic direction or standards has allowed a few lazy teachers to hurt the reputation of their hard working colleagues and the school as a whole. I wish the hard working staff would speak up about their lazy co-workers so that the school can recover. Miquon could be so much better but they need to take a hard look at themselves and be open to criticism from their customers.

All three of my kids go to the Miquon School, all with very different personalities, and it has been a wonderful place for all of them. Miquon is great at nurturing kids' growth into independent mature human beings (both in and out of the classroom), and at embracing kids' passions and differences. Note that we have a kid with multiple learning disabilities, and although not every year has been perfect, overall Miquon has been amazing at working with us and supporting his growth. I would recommend Miquon to any family.
