My kids attend Shady Lane. They have already been in three school districts: Reynoldsburg, Licking Heights, and now Columbus Public. I must admit, we find ourselves no more satisfied or dissatisfied with the level of education here than we did in the higher-performing suburban districts. In fact, I would say I receive more frequent communication from teachers and staff at this school than the previous ones. Better yet, this is the first school my kids have gone to where they haven't complained about getting bullied. Their academic performance through upper grades still remains to be proven, but so far I feel as though they have adequate resources and support to learn. No school can raise your child, they can only teach. As a former educator, I know all too well that just being in a good district will not guarantee you're assigned to a good teacher. Furthermore, not all teachers will get along with all students. We actively chose to switch to Columbus Public Schools so that we would have the flexibility of moving schools if necessary, or finding good tutors, or spending more time helping our kids with homework. The framework for success exists here, and there are far more options than there are in the smaller districts. It's worth seeing for yourself!

I feel like the teachers really don't care about the children they are they're just there to get a paycheck. They make rude comments to the children. The principal backtracks on his words. You don't know what's really going on with the kids at school there's not much communication between parents and school. If your child is to get hurt by another student at school you get no phone call you get nothing letting you know that something happened to your child the only way you know is kid comes home to tell you.

Shady lane has an awesome principal (Mr. Hainer) who puts his heart and soul into his staff, school and students. The teachers care about their students and fellow colleagues. The kids are well behaved and want to learn.
